I was thinking about this last night when they were showing some of the old highlights. costas has been around a longgg time. I'm really indifferent towards him...he's like a younger version of al michaels to me. These days if you don't despise an announcer/color guy I guess they're doing a good job. There are 3 times as many terrible broadcasters as good ones

I'm a fan of Costas calling ball games - playoff games to be exact. Same with McDonough.

Why doesn't ESPN have the divisional series anyway? Or one of the prime time networks? How in the Hell does TBS have it? Of course it's money, but it's more of a rhetorical question. Would love to see this shit back on ABC or NBC.

How much fun would Philly and Atlanta be in the NLCS? I hate the NL, but that would be must-see TV.

I'm a little perplexed. Why does this sound so exciting? I mean, I'll be excited, since the Phils would be in it, but why would a neutral observer consider Phils-Braves must-see TV?

Also, why would you hate the NL? Because everyone has to bat AND field? Because we have the Pirates?

I don't mind joe buck for baseball, but he annoys me for football. Met him at the Public House one night. His head is enormous (I mean in a physical sense). He was cool though. He was in town to do an eagles/giants playoff game. He was taking all kinds of pics with my wife and her friends.

Night 1 of this Burns documentary was better. Too red sox centric tonight. that 2004 team was full of dbags...pedro, schilling, millar, damon, ortiz, manny. god I hate the red sox. THe 9/11 stuff was cool, I wish they would have shown more of that. Shocked that they didn't even include the piazza HR. The Ichiro stuff was cool too, had no idea he was a natural RH hitter. What a beast.

I think me and a buddy of mine are the only people on Earth that enjoy Buck for baseball. I get my balls busted for it all the time. I think the dude can be pretty funny sometimes. Definitely should stick to baseball, hate him for football.

Fixer, funny thing you mention seeing him at the Public House. Buddies of mine from my rugby team saw him there and asked him if he wanted to go in the alley way to smoke a bone. His response was something like, "there's nothing in the world that would interest me less." I find this funny.

As far as the Part 2 of Ken Burnsathon, all I gotta say is....guys, I don't know if you know it, but.....Boston really really really REALLY likes the Red Sox.

What a waste of fucking 35 minutes.

seriously. I almost changed the channel. so fucking annoying

that buck quote is funny. He was out by himself when we saw him and he was pretty lit. I asked him where Aikman was and he said that troy doesn't get the best reception when he goes out in philly. My wife has some pretty funny pics of him and her friends. he seemed like a good dude...if I was as famous as him I'd probably be a huge dickhead (or bigger dickhead than I am).

you should check out " nine innings from ground zero: the 2001 world series" if you haven't already seen it. really great documentary bout nyc and the aftermath of 9/11 and how much people rallied around baseball here. i cried when pizza hit that home run. probably the only time i'll every cry for a home run .

HBO does some good shit. Not too sound like a dick, but since I've seen that doc a bunch of times, I was hoping he would take a different view of it. Especially when an event like that gets bumped for 35 minutes of Red Sawk puke fest.

seeing that 9/11 stuff still makes me angry. I went to the first phils game after baseball started back up and I gotta admit I had to fight off tears when the anthem was playing. That was a crazy time, can't believe it was almost 10 years ago.

I will see if I can find that documentary. I gotta go see the Tillman Story too

the nine innings doc is yankees heavy obviously. so it might be boring if you have that much hate for the yankees.

I don't hate the yankees, just ARod and the mets. I don't like the yanks either, but as a phils fan, the yanks are irrelevant to me until the WS.

There are red sox fans everywhere in philly. I just don't understand it. That's why I hate them so much.

It's not just Philly. It's a lot of places. And it's gay. I LOVE going to Phils games and asking these die hards where they came all the way down from? Bucks county? There's just as many Yankee bandwagons down here as well. Walk around South Philly some time. Almost like being Italian and being a Yankee fan is like spaghetti and meatballs.

I'm telling you in 2004 if you were in philly and you walked into a bar during the baseball playoffs you would have thought you were in boston. I still get mad thinking about this. CBP has been the same way since it opened...it's at least half boston fans.

It is, but Fenway Park, Citi Field, PNC Park & Nationals Park are all at least half Phillies fans. PNC Park was about 80% Phils fans in the game I went to on July 1. The entire rows in front of me, behind me, and next to me were 100% Phils fans.

There was plenty of Boston pukefest in the first 9 innings of Baseball as well. Like no other team in baseball has suffered.

I liked referring to the 2009 Yankees' "lavishly paid free agents."

I don't know about Fenway. Maybe there are a lot of Phillies fans because it is such a rare occasion but Fenway is not a place where there are typically a whole lot of opposing teams fans.
  • Did I hear my name?

Cliffy's right, in my nearly 3 decades of attending hundreds of games at Fenway, I have never once felt there was a measurable amount of opposing teams fans. We don't take too kindly to outsiders here. There are always drunk Yankee fans who make an ass of themselves, usually in the bleachers or sections 1-3, but they are quickly beaten up by Officer Sully and escorted from the premises.

I looked for some evidence, but couldn't find any. Sox/Phillies isn't much of a rivalry, so when I went in 1999 I was sort of a novelty. I still say there are decent pockets of Phils fans in Fenway.

Yeah, Fenway usually doesn't get a lot of visiting fans since the place only holds 35,000 and is already sold out. So when Fenway was half Phils fans this year, I commend them for their effort since every one of those tix had to come at a pretty expensive cost.

went to fenway for a phils game back in...04 or 05. there certainly was a hefty contingent of phils fans at that game and throughout the city. i would say a quarter of the place was filled with phils fans. and this was obviously before the phils run these past few years. so that made it more impressive. though there were plenty of eagles chants back in those days

one thing that sucks about fenway: no beer men roaming the aisles. they only serve sodas there. at least that is the way it was back then. we had more fun than one should have demanding the soda man fetch us beers all game.
