Updated! question on male kittens

In my experience, boy cats don't start spraying until they go into heat - not sure at what age that starts, but it's always best to get them fixed as soon as possible. If the vet says 6 months, then go for it. I've never had any kittens that sprayed before they reached about a year old.

Earlier when I posted this, I said that when I was thinking about adopting some kittens, my vet said they only will neuter at 6 months (the earliest.) Well, I took my new guy to the same vet's practice (they have like 5) and she said he had "entirely too much work done to him for such a young age." I can't help that!
