...album of the year so far!

However, it is shorter than Backspacer. Will there be as much bitching on here about the length of Sea Of Cowards as there was about the length of Backspacer?

No, I thought not! :)

NPR is streaming it. It's freaking amazing. MAYBE tops Horehound. A much 'thicker' sound.

As far as originality goes, its been a while since an album has been put out like this. I wouldn't even put Backspacer in the same category. If we were going on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give Backspacer a 6 and Sea of Cowards 9.5. This album is AMAZING!!! Go see this band if you can.

I think we need to seriously start throwing Jack's name around up there with the greatest musicians of all time. The man is that good.

After 2 spins, I'm not totally sold on it yet, it seems kinda rushed in my mind. And I agree, 35 minutes goes by quickly with it.

He's definitely getting there. There aren't many that can match the quality and consistency of his work at the moment.

I'm a massive Black Keys fan (and I think they're a lot better than the White Stripes and the Raconteurs) but 'Brothers' is trailing a distant second to 'Sea of Cowards' at the moment...

Yeah, I know it's different, but who else in rock history has a catalog has good as Jack's... The Beatles, Floyd, Zepp, Bob Dylan... AND he's only 35. I think when all is said and done he will be up there.

  • having had some time to listen to the album as a whole and the songs individually, it comes across as underdeveloped and less inspired than horehound. half A-side and half B-side songs.

i saw them in houston a week ago. having only heard 'die by the drop' and 'gasoline' off the new album going in i felt 'underwhelmed' by some of the other new material. 'blue blood blues' was great live and so was 'no horse'. 'the difference between us' was another gem played during the encore, but others such as 'hustle and cuss' and 'i'm mad' felt flat and mediocre for such an amazing band.

hearing the album in full a few days later on NPR.org only reaffirmed what i first thought.

    A SIDE
    ______
    Blue Blood Blues
    The Difference Between Us
    Die By The Drop
    Gasoline
    No Horse
    Jawbreaker

    B SIDE
    ______
    Hustle and Cuss
    I'm Mad
    I Can't Hear You
    Looking At The Invisible Man
    Old Mary

Bought it today and listening to it for a second time. It's great. Everything Jack White makes is great.

Allison Mosshart is great! I think she is one of best female vocalists out today.
