Just downloaded my first 2010 boot yesterday(columbus). I must say I am a little disappointed. I am a huge Matt Cameron fan. His drums sound like he has a ton of reverb on the mix. It gives it a sound like he's playing inside a metal box. It also cracks a bit at the high end as well. Not as much as the '08 boots though.
I prefer their boots that have the music very much at the fore front of the sound vs the crowd noise. Therefore, 2000, 2006, 2009 are the quality that I like best.
Certainly don't want to be "debbie downer" as PJ is the best band in the world and the access they give to their music is second to none. I have well over 100 boots and notice that many times, the earlier dates of a tour often times are the worst sounding. For those of you that have downloaded shows later in the tour, is this true for the 2010 boots? Trying to decide if I should purchase anymore boots from this tour.

The folks Like Bret and John who have mixed the shows over the last 10 years have tried to get that balance that pleases most of the fans who listen to audience recordings. It's hard to pin down. I am unsure who is mixing the shows this year. I know Barrett Jone was doing it in 2008 and I think 2009. Bret Eliason did all the shows from 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
I feel that 2010 has by far done the best job of mixing to incorporate both the band and the audience so far. That's just one opinion though. It's all in the ears of the beholder.

For me, I have been a musician for most of my life and I am very interested in the superiority of PJ's ability as musicians. Therefore, I prefer the live music not the live "crowd".
Part of the excitment of them releasing the boots IMO is seeing how the quality of the sound is. Now that we have 10 years of officialy boots it's great to compare. Thankfully, we have a ton of music to base our "debates" on....Long live PJ....

I would like to think so from my perspective anyways. Brett is what most of us hard core official bootleg collectors are most used to. 2008 was a bit of a rough start but after the first few shows John and Barret seemed to find a happy medium and I think with that experience they found just the right recording and mix average between Band and Audience for the majority of the shows. 2010 has proven to show that experience so far. Just excellent recordings and mixing this year all around. Sometimes Stone is hard to make out and sometimes Matt's drums are a bit canned but overall the band is really mixed well with the audience.
With Brett it seemed an evolution of recording and mixing growth. By 2006 I could not make out much of the audience in many shows but the recordings were very superior none the less. 2006-05-22, Auburn Hills is a great example of that.

Really? I think it sounds pretty fine. I'm listening to CD's I burned from my purchased FLAC on my home stereo system. It sure sounds like it was inside Nationwide Arena to me.

Actually what u have to do is once u finalize your purchase the link that just says "Download" is right there on the same page towards the bottom. If u go back to the "Goods" Section and click on "Orders" on the left side of your screen, then go down to the bottom where today's date/order # is, then click on that and there should be an option there to download again. I did the same thing, I kept waiting for this email with a link incorporated, but they must have stopped doing that for a while now. Anyways, I hope this helps. Later
The only bad thing about mixing the crowd-noise very low is it sound like the band is bombing and the venue is mostly empty. Like a sporting event where the home team is getting blown out.

Ok...I have now downloaded columbus, hartford and boston and the quality is not good. I have listened to them on my bad ass computer speakers, my bose headphones and my shitty stock escape speakers and they just aren't as good quality wise.
Do the CDs have better sound than dowloads? The sound is very flat.

Sorry to read that you feel that way but as I said before, it's in the ears of the beholder. The cds are the same quality sound as the flac. Just burned to a cd. Also, as I noted. Most of us hardcore bootleg collectors are used to Brett Eliason from 2000-2006. They were superior recordings. I personally feel that the 2008-2010 are not as superior but are still great quality. I hope you grow to enjoy them more for what they are. I tend to avoid comparing sound quality to former shows for this reason because then one sets themselves up for disappointment.

My friend and I just went through the Bristow boot...there is not a flaw to be found. Every instrument has a comfortable spot in the mix. It is perfect...especially 'cause we were there!
