If you were there and you saw it- yeah I'm that guy. First and foremost, sorry for the disturbance that was caused that night, but I just need to vent a little. Here is my side of the story:

My wife and I were seated most of the way back on the floor where we could not see much. She kept trying to snap a picture of the band with no luck. After some careful observance, she decided there was enough foot traffic up and down the aisles that she could walk toward the stage, snap a pic and come back to her seat. I decided, "what the hell, I'll go with you." When we got close enough for a pic, we were met by a security guard who told us to go back to our seats. My wife quickly tried to take the picture before she turned around and that bastard security guard deliberately shined his flashlight right into her camera. She tried to move his hand (my wife is all of 5-foot-2 and anything BUT a threatening figure) and he began shoving her violently, grabbing and pushing her right on her breast. When I saw this, my natural reaction was to jump in and DO something. So, I pushed the guard. Things get a little fuzzy at that point. He took a swing at me and I dodged it and when the pushing and grabbing was all over, I was in an armlock and being escorted outside.

I'm sure there will be people on here who will lambaste me as a trouble maker. You know, one of THOSE people who show up to the concert and ruin it for everyone. But, I can assure you that it is completely out of character for me to get into or cause anything like this to happen, and in the end, it really only affected my wife and me, but I still think the security guard could have been a lot less zealous.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

I side with security on this one. I don't agree with him pushing or grabbing your wife (though I suspect you may be exaggerating this a little) but I do think that he should have blocked the picture and sent you back to your seats. I'm not usually much of a stickler for the rules....but if you guys walk up front and are able to take pictures, then they'd have to let everybody and that would cause chaos.

I did notice security was a bit to uptight. It was very distracting.

why not just explain "hey, yeah we will head back to our seat, but we just wanted to get a picture of the band. We can't get any good ones from our seats. please? we'll be real quick."

so on that side of things, i side with the cops cause your wife could have done better than to sneak a quick photo and then swipe his hand away when he blocks it.

however, i feel more sympathy towards you because what the security guard did was horrible and he should be fired, provided you had evidence that you're not exaggerating. and i have sympathy for you, because if that was my girlfriend getting harassed by a security guard, you bet i'd back lash.

Not exaggerating. In fact, I had to take a really deep breath before writing this to make sure I didn't over do it. This is putting things very mildly. When I left there I was pretty fired up. And, like I said, there were SO many people in the aisles-taking pictures, making recordings with their phones, etc....

The problem with security is that they spend half the time over-doing it with situations that require little or no attention, but when there is an actual problem, they are rarely there.

You weren't at the Reading, PA show in 04', were you?

That sucks man. And I have to say it seems you kept your cool for the most part. If some security rent-a-cop started groping my wife I would probably have spent the night in jail.

People can say what they will about who was right or wrong in that situation, but there are very different ways of dealing with security issues when a woman is involved. Pushing her breasts is clearly not the best practice. It's not like she was starting a riot and the guy was doing everything he could to protect himself and others. She was trying to snap a fucking picture.

Well, on the plus side,at least you didn't get tear gassed like some of of did at Hartford '98.

Should've stayed in your seats...if you're that close that you can just walk up, what's the difference where you take the picture?

If you've been to more than one concert, I can only blame you...you should know how these security guys are...

I was confronted by overzealous security in 2003 at Irvine...we were trying to leave the pit at the end of YLB, but the pit was overcrowded, so we climbed over the rail at the back of the pit. Securtiy thought we were trying to climb into the pit, so they pushed me down to the ground. Never before had I felt so angered by a physical action towards me. Luckily, I restrained myself.

In many cases, security seems to be looking for some action, even though none may be warranted. However, security doesn't always know the fan's intention, so I can see how they'd have a chip on their shoulder, especially if someone ignored their request to move back, etc.

Ever done concert security? I'm guessing it SUCKS big time.
Dealing with drunks who get out of their seats & then put their hands on you as a guard... no surprise that there's a zero tolerance policy. Theres nothing that says you have a right to a picture.

Shitty situation for you, though. Buy the boot :)

All in all, venue security guards are overzealous. IMHO.....They should act in a professional manner consistently, remembering that the people are there to have a good time and paid a lot of money to do so. If there were no complaints by other patrons or there was not an attempt to disrupt the show, I think there should be some leeway there. It was only a picture for crying out loud.

BTW.. if Ed saw that, he would have flipped a bit.

Bummer ya got kicked out. I wasn't there but I saw the setlist and the first set was right up my ally. Did you at least get to see the majority of the show?
