I am picking up an order from Ruby Tuesday's for someone. (you call ahead, wait in your car in the specified parking spot and they bring your order out to you)

do you tip them?

I just read online that you should if they bring it to your car.

    there were conflicting views however...

I'll tip if they come to my car. If I'm going in, and the hostess brings the bag from the kitchen to the front I won't.

I'm really sick of seeing that "Tip Line" on every damn receipt anymore.

I can spot you (David Hasselhoff) because I am familiar with your partner in crime, your concert bud.

By the way, the food at nissan (ooops, Jiffy Lube) is awful.

Ah... you're right. I'm planning on getting to the venue around 6pm... so I don't know if I'll have another option for food (aside from snacks on the ride up).

oh, what's your number start with? I'm 181xxx....I'm guessing crappy seats near the screen in Egypt, Stone's side. That's where we sat in 2006 at Nissan. I'd rather sit in the center, even if it is not near the front, just don't like being way over on the side. My beautiful avatar pic of a balding Ed was taken from the second row in VA Beach :)

if the order was picky, tip a buck or two, like you would tip a bartender. Or else, no tip.

the first time I took out food from the Olive Garden, I tipped the person 15% that rang me up. I didn't know what to do and somebody told me not to do that! So I stopped tipping and I feel cheap.

Don't feel cheap. I bet a 15% tip at the Olive Garden would be around $5. No way would I tip the person who rang me up. Pushing buttons on a register does not require a tip. It's their job. A waitress of bartender who waits on me, providing the service is good and they are friendly, will always get a 20% tip from me. But if I have to walk in to get food to bring home, no tip.

I go to a brazilian bbq place near where I work. its a buffet style resturant no waitstaff other than to clear the table. I get my own plate my own food. I get the bill at the end of the line.

I get up bring my bill to the front counter..and that bloody tip line is there.

    I don't tip there either.

My wife and I argue about this all the time...I worked in the food industry for years and operated on the idea that Tip Karma is a bitch. She did not and never likes to tip.

Definitely not for carryout if I have to park and go in and get it.

I don't recall going anyplace where they deliver it to the car. Never been to a Sonic.

I tip for delivery to the house. In proportion to the total cost of the order, with more if it's really lousy weather. And a little extra if it's the most excellent Chinese food restaurant that always says "35 minutes" but delivers in 15, piping hot and always accurate. The delivery guy is really nice.

Man, now I'm craving broccoli chicken...

There's a little hamburger joint I like going to go for carry out and the staff puts out a tip jar on the carry out counter. Its a place that sells hamburgers like White Castles, only better.

I figure the coins from my change are good enough for a tip jar. Plus my pockets don't jingle that way

yes... all the time. I tip someone to do their job and to walk across a car park so i won't have to even leave my comfy seat. I tip for carry out at every opportunity... i believe it's what keeps the prices down... although the addition of the tip kinda makes that argument nonsensical but hey-ho... as the old saying, er, says... when in Rome go see the Coliseum.. it's fucking massive!
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
