So they had to finish around 7.00 pm already? Headliner of the festival? Gee... thats strange...

Nice to see those greek and izrael flags there tho!

Its not strange for Jazz fest because there are a ton of "after shows" all over NO. Fest all day, grab a bite, then party all night at the after shows.

Wow. I love random set lists that are all over the place like that! Seeing videos of that show, it seems like a unique and interesting vibe.

It sounded from the pre-set guitar check that they were going to play You Are (the tech was running Stone's guitar through the fx) but it never materialized - part of the missing 15 minutes perhaps?

Thanks for all the info :)
But what you describe above happens before EVERY show. For some reason, Stone's guitar tech runs that every time.

So I've since been told... prickteasers... I love that song.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.
  • little short, but great show. they were really tight. In My Tree was the highlight for me.

Alright, I'm driving back to Houston right now with my girlfriend, got 6 hours in the car, so I'll give my recount...

This was my 7th PJ show since 2005, it was a banger, I got treated to a few songs I haven't heard before, notably tremor Christ, nothingman, supersonic, kick out the jams (awesome cover), just breathe, and rock n roll star.

The opening was a little bit odd. Though a strong opener, there were a lot of people around me shaking there heads... It even took me a verse to realize what the cover was... But definitely a rare treat, I don't think anyone could have predicted that as an opener.. And straight into lukin!! Sweetness. I was actually surprise d at how many people around me were looking around confused until they broke into corduroy... Corduroy was great, I love that song, listen to it every day... However there was a point before the solo where the band was out of sync, matt took control as usual and put them back in order.

Other than that, no real awkwardness I the band, no rust on the fret boards like there was in Toronto last year. There were a few techical glitches, mike fiddled with his equipment before starting the evenflow solo, and Eddie's microphone let go atleast 3 or 4 feedback screeches, but all sounded pretty good for the first show of the tour.

The even flow solo was nailed, perfect. Down was just awesome, as always. A lot of people didn't know the sog where I was, but got really into it. In my tree was great... It's been 5 years since I last heard them play it, and the opening verse could have been a little better musically (it was really just matt banging out the beat and Eddie singing) but I loved it. It was great to hear it again.

Ed's voice was awesome, it sounded great. Not anywhere near as worn out as it sounded last year at ACL. Stone was rockin out as usual... I couldn't see boom unfortunately, he was blocked from my view by an equipment stack...but I know he was there... His b3 sounded great on unthought known.

All in all, I'm glad I made the trip, it was a great show. The closing was a bit odd, I was definitely expecting the usual encore.. And it's been 2 years since I've heard yellow Ledbetter, so I was kind of hoping for that, but getting treated to kick out the jams was great. For the record though, I lot of people haven't mentioned the fact that the band did start almost 10 minutes early... So they did punch in a good hour and fifty minutes.

As side notes, I was very dissapointed that I didn't get a poster. I didn't really like the jazzfest posters, and had my tube in hand looking for a gem when I got there, only to be dissapointed. However seeing the poster on bk's website, it looks awesome, and I will have an AP I my possession before long.

Also, despite the ugliness of the lone PJ shirt at the merchant booth, believe it or not, it sold out at $35 a pop. When I was exiting I noticed that they had even sold the ones that they had hung up 25 feet about the stand.

All in all, great show, great trip.... I am looking forward to Boston and Hartford though... After my last 2 shows being festival dates I need a real PJ show.
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

The connection with the troops was a little iffy. They put them up on the big screen a number of times, and Eddie had a monitor set up by his mic so he could see them. He said he had a good friend fighting in Afghanistan, and it appeared as if that guy was in a room on the other end of a telephone so they could communicate. However, it also appeared as if there was a lengthy delay, so they only attempted one
conversation, and it didn't go as smoothly as hoped (because of the delay)... at one point Ed was talking to the guy, and he was on the big screen punching numbers into his phone (trying to call through, I imagine), obviously unaware he was being spoken to. Ed did dedicate Daughter to his friend's daughter, which was nice (as long as you ignore the lyrics of the song lol). They brought out some troops' family members before the show and introduced them to the crowd, which was cool.

All in all it was an awesome idea that didn't quite go as smoothly as planned - but it would be cool if they tried it again sometime.

I forgot to mention - the group they were broadcasting to was the 256th Infantry Brigade, so while talking to them Ed introduced the band as "the 250-Pearl Jam" or something like that.

Its Been like 7yrs since ive seen them, and despite some technical difficulties, it was a great show! Kick out the Jams was awesome... A little Disappointed about no Yellow Ledbetter, but what can u do? I was about halfway back and the view was still great, and the sound was awesome as well. Overall im stoked about the whole day!

I thought for sure after kick off the jams they were going to play rocking in the free world. I was against the rail on the left side and infront of me they had a person on stage signing to the audience(sign laguage) I thought that was cool. For a trip that was almost canceled twice. I have to say it was a great time. Met a bunch of really cool people and ran into a couple from past shows.I was surounded by a bunch of cool ass people had a blast hanging out all day with complete strangers that at the end of the day became great friends.

One of the best experiences of my life. I was as close to the stage as one could possibly be, and right in front of Mike! I was rocking out in my wheelchair (broken foot), and Mike and Eddie kept looking right at me. At one point Mike pointed right at me and threw me a pick. He also blew me a kiss <3. I was sooooo bummed out about going with a broken foot, but it ended up getting me right up front (I still had to get there at 10AM though, with the rest of ya). Amazing, simply amazing.

Wow, that's all I got to say. FIRST TIME seeing Pearl Jam, LONG TIME fan, and now I can REALLY see what the fuss is about. I mean, the music is GREAT, but the shows......wow. That's the only word that comes to mind. Was down at the left side front railing, awesome view, some few technical problems, but hey, that ain't there fault, they did have them CRANKED though!!! Great show, will never forget it!
