What they fail to mention is that on the news when this first happened they did cover the remote switch option and in this circumstance the remote switch wouldn't have helped any due to the circumstances. But I really wouldn't expect it from Ed. Not saying they shouldn't have to use the switches but........well, I figured this would be G.W's fault sooner or later.
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

I believe this link has already been posted. From what I can understand if they would have put in a remote switch it would have been placed below the leak. So, I do agree that they should have to use them, but in this case, there is no sense in bitching about a remote switch shut off when it wouldn't have helped any.

i haven't seen anything saying an acoustical switch would not have worked. i have seen that for some reason the blow out preventer bp did use didn't go off for some reason but the acoustical switch would've had a different trigger

i don't think anyone really cares to be quite honest ... we've been treating our oceans like a toilet for decades ...
what i do find interesting is reading about BP's involvement in Iran when Mossadegh was taken over in a CIA plot ... which basically tells me - everyone knows this company is evil yet no one cares to do anything about it ...

I try not to think of an overall organization as evil, unless we are talking about C.O.B.R.A., but it does appear that BP has done some underhanded things to achieve maximum profit . . . for the best interest of the company.
This case however is an accident. I would be willing to bet that the safety protocol was very high. It is not in the best interest of BP to have one of these things blow up.

i wish it were the case ... hoewever, in time you will see that safety was probably not very high ...
did you know the exxon valdez spill could have been avoided if exxon was following the law? ... that they essentially decided to break the law because it would save them money ... when all is said in done in valdez that spill will cost them less than if they were to have followed all the precautions they were supposed to do ...
two things: 1. the gov't has weak environmental laws that are rarely enforced and 2. big oil is a major driver of gov't policy ... combine these two things and you have an industry that is allowed to self regulate and when they fuck up like this ... the consequences would be nominal ...

The bastards are hiding the actual severity of it too. It's disgusting. Dolphins are showing up on the Lousiana coast! Any mention of it? noooope.

i read somewhere that some wildlife experts actually recommend euthanizing birds soaked in oil saying even if they are cleaned off a very small % live very long afterwards.

That would be the humane thing to do. However, they're getting too much mileage out of photographs of people "saving" the birds. The whole thing makes me feel like vomiting. The Gulf has been a mess for MANY years - but it was never talked about. There are areas out there that are completely dead - no life of any kind, like the Dead Sea. Ten years ago when I lived on the East Coast of Florida, there were several times a year (at least four or five) when you couldn't enjoy the beach because of red tide. Dead fish everywhere and the bacteria itself makes humans ill with respiratory problems. Scientists tried to cover up the source by saying it was "natural". The only time of the year when it wasn't prevalent every couple of months was winter. That was ten years ago. Since then we've had Katrina and Ike wash all manner of shit into the Gulf - now the oil spill. The Gulf has become a garbage dump. It's fucking unforgiveable. Greed trumps morality every time and absolutely nothing will change. Add insult to injury because we'll all be paying for it at the pump. :x

Beginning of the end. The World and Mother Nature acts to protect itself in mysterious ways. How long untill the human threat is eliminated for the good of the other creatures sharing the world we think we own.
when does hurricane season start? i wonder what would happen if a hurricane helped spread the oil and chemicals even further?
