In 1987 Huey released "Fore!", their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square," a song so catchy that most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Live version of "Heart of Rock and Roll" on the link.

Huey Lewis and the News Celebrate 'The Heart of Rock & Roll' Live
Rockers mark 30th anniversary of 'Sports' with concert cut

Huey Lewis and the News made a name for themselves before Sports, but their 1983 album rocketed the San Francisco pop-rockers to superstardom with four Top 10 hits and seven-times platinum sales. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their massive breakthrough, the band is releasing a special edition of Sports with a disc of nine live versions of favorites, including "Heart and Soul," "Walking on a Thin Line" and "If This Is It." Here, the band grooves on "The Heart of Rock & Roll" at the Blossom Music Center near Cleveland in the summer of 1988. The band gives the crowd a rowdy good time, and Huey Lewis lets the boys rock on freely with a blazing sax solo and extended jam time.

The 30th anniversary edition of Sports will be out on May 14th. Preorders are available at Amazon. Huey Lewis and the News are also touring behind the re-release. For full tour dates, visit the band's website.

He's coming to the Casino near me this summer. I took my daughter to
see them when she was little. One of her first concerts. I think I'll take her again,
for old time sake. My local radio station had an interview with him a week or so ago.
And I was pissed. They shouldn't of had the privilege to do such, knowing damn well,
They rarely even play them. And He's from S.F. I let them know how I felt about it.
I doubt if anything I said, had any affect on their Classic/Bubble Gum Rock or not.
    But,I said what I meant,and I meant what I said.
  • aw them tonight at a free show in Long Island, they were pretty good. played Sports from start to finish and a few other notable songs.

You do know today is BTTF II day, right?

Sports was the first album I remember hearing when I was 3 just after it came out. My dad had it on cassette and would play it constantly. Always loved them before Patrick Bateman made it "cool" to like the band. Love listening to them just to take me back to my childhood. They were kind of the Hootie and the Blowfish of their day if you think about it.

Also, Huey Lewis is right up there with Sammy Hagar and Dave Grohl as one of the coolest, laid back guys in rock and roll.
