5 Favorite Bands

What's up, kids?

Okay so I think it's safe to assume that anybody reading this is very passionate about music. I think it even might not be a stretch to say that anybody reading this considers Pearl Jam their favorite band. I love the Other Music section of the board and personally have gained a new appreciation for different acts through all of your recommendations. However, I did a search function and couldn't find this topic covered. So I'm posing this question to the board, who are your 5 favorite bands? As a little caveat to this discussion, bands of yesteryear that no longer tour (Beatles, Zeppelin, Doors, Nirvana, Hendrix, etc.) cannot be named.

Here's mine:
1. Pearl Jam
2. My Morning Jacket
3. R.E.M.
4. Modest Mouse
5. CAKE

Yours? Feel free to explain why you love them so much, but please, save your breath gushing about Pearl Jam for the Porch.

    4. Bon Iver

Who would have thought a couple of these would be on this list in 2010.

I don't know how i cant include radiohead or rhcp on my list, just included the last 2 because that is probably my current favorites.

    Heres mine in no order:

    Pearl Jam
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
    R.E.M.
    The Cult
    Soundgarden
If Springsteen doesn't count then I'd say The Police, or Alice In Chains. Also if Dire Straits or Mother Love Bone were still around theyd definitely be on the list.

5 favorite bands currently touring? I'll base that on ticket stubs collected...

    1 - Pearl Jam
2 - tie between My Morning Jacket and Metallica
3 - tie between the Allman Brothers Band, the Black Crowes and Rush
4 - tie between Dinosaur Jr and Foo Fighters
5 - tie between Umphrey's McGee and Cracker

    So basically I just turned 5 into 10. 8-)

I have yet to see Radiohead. That needs to change.

over 20 of the best shows I've ever seen. Shit front row at the swamps in jersey right in front of Justin, that was a sick fucken nite!!! You leave a Tool show in complete silence and shock at what you were just a part of. Bababooey knows, I bet he still remembers that spiritual feeling when he walked outside the venue and headed for his car after the first show....

I love Bruce, but last time I saw him, he was average... First time I saw him he was fucking incredible though! I'm seeing my first Arcade Fire headlining set this summer, can't wait! (I saw them open for U2 years ago, blew them off the stage)

Tough to boil it down to only 5, but here goes:

    1. Pearl Jam
    2. Dizzy Mizz Lizzy (Danish band, recently reformed on a reuniontour, never officially disbanded :D )
    3. Metallica
    4. D-A-D (another great Danish band, even better live)
    5. Rammstein

And David Bowie on a 5.5 place, but not really a band.
... Perhaps Depeche Mode on my 5th ... argh I can't decide. No it stays as it is.
Have fun, walk hard and stay alive.

I sat in the pouring rain to see bruce 2 years ago. one of the best 3 hour shows after the downpour tho i have ever been.

Saw arcade fire at coachella 5 or 6 years ago. been trying ever since to catch them locally but their tour dates are sporadic at best...such is life...

    Good stuff guys.

Kudos to -decodified- for listing CAKE. Great minds.

I've noticed some of ya have listed 5 not including our best boys, so my alternative selection, after much thought, will be the Decemberists.
