On the other hand, maybe this is an important discussion if people can try to gain some kind of understanding of the other side’s stance.
Cartoons have never once physically hurt people. Religious zealots have.
Bravo South Park to continuing to say what needs to be said.... and I certainly hope they both have carry permits.
If this is dealt with respectfully, maybe some young muslim reading about the controversy will reconsider following such a strict dogma….if we just further insult their religion/culture (by doing stupid things like calling them fucking idiots) instead of trying to understand, then this whole situation backfires; the gap widens, and we’re all worse off.

First....toleration? I'm no grammar cop, but come ON.
Second, I'm not american.
Third....you're right - in this particular instance, there isn't much to understand. I don't condone violence for this kind of thing and said so earlier in the thread. If you'd not been so eager to promote the superiority of your religion, you might have realized that. As stated, I lump these people in with christian extremists (yes, they exist), and war apologists who jusify mass murder/war/occupation via flag waving and bible thumping, and basically anyone else who practices a form of groupthink that results in violence.....in other words....I lump them in with....uh...some of the posters here0 -

Tonight, they bleeped out the word Muhammed and had a censor sign on him. They made fun of everyone not being able to say the word Muhammed in public and censored his body. The muslim group may think South Park listened to what they said, but they just made fun of not being able to say Muhammed and show him on TV.
South Park showed Muhammed in a Season 5 episode called "Super Best Friends". But that was before 9/11.
Actually, it wasn't Trey and Matt's decision to bleep the word Muhammed. They delivered the show to Comedy Central and the pussy suits pissed themselves and decided to bleep them without the creators permission. See for yourself.

Man you have an inferiority complex. the US is over 75% Christian, quit with the poor Christians crap.
And also quit with the forget about understanding Muslims, think of us poor old Christians....
If you continue to want "tolerance" of Christians, maybe you should try it yourself. Do unto others and all that...0 -
I recently learned of Pat Condell and think he's a fellow hitting the nail on the head when it comes to Islam and some of the flaws of multiculturalism to the point of absurdity. I encourage people to give a listen to some of what he has to say. I think some of you with opinions on either side of this South Park issue might find some of what he has to say interesting.
http://www.patcondell.com/
There's a lot of commentary about Islam and some monologues about totally other stuff. Have a listen and see what you think. I feel like he does a great job at articulating a lot of things people think and know at heart, but often totally fail to express when they try to. I also appreciate his ability to point out that evaluating and sometimes criticizing is something we ought to be doing... to everything. There's a pretty grave danger present in not doing so.
One think I'm not liking about how his site has been redone is that I'm not seeing an overall list of his monologues to choose from. Instead it seems to just go in reverse order from his homepage.
P.S. I just did a search on You Tube and found that it looks like most of his monologues are present there in a manner that can let you pick and choose from his topics a bit better.
After having a look at some of the hate mail Pat Condell has received for his views (http://www.patcondell.com/page4/page4.html), I can only imagine what the South Park staff are all receiving at the moment. It's time for some change and for a reality check on racial and cultural sensitivities.0 -

Saw this episode last night in the UK. Muhammed wasn't bleeped out and I don't recall making fun of not being able to say the name. What they did have was the fact that his image could not be shown on TV and had a big 'censored' block. Though I don't think it had anything to do with censorship per se but with the whole thing about the religion not allowing his image to be shown. The whole episode was based on that (ie the bear suit, etc.).
Is this again the case of the Americans making a mountain out of a molehill?0 -

Why was the word Mohammad not censored when shown in Europe then? Comedy Central, right? Seems American networks censored it for distribution/showing in the US, not here. So yeah... americans making a mountain out of a molehill. If they weren't, wouldn't they be risking the wrath of these radicals, whereever this episode shown?0 -

Haha, the poor degraded Christians in America. I remember the good 'ol days when i could practice Christianity openly in this country. Now I have to do so underground with the extreme threat of shame or violence against me if anyone finds out......
The whole "attack on Christianity in America" bullshit was laughable at first but is now just getting old.0 -

Save your whining for your militant Christian wing... The Ku Klux Klan, Rev. Phelps and his 'God Hates Fags' minions and the assholes that assasinate doctors in your own churches.
The KKK does not represent all Christians... do they? No... HELL NO! Neither do Rev. Phelps and his words of hatred and intolerance. The SAME way fanatical fundamentalist Islamic militants do not speak for all of Islam.
THAT... is some understanding YOU need to grasp.
...
As for Christmas and Easter... what does a pine tree decorated with symbols of fertility have to do with the birth of Christ? And what about rabbits that lay eggs? Were they at the Ressurrection?
You can still have Christmas and Easter... there is no law banning it... as far as I can tell. You can say, 'Merry Motherfucking Christmas, bitches' to anyone you please... and you won't be dragged off and drawn and quartered. All we ask is that you keep your religious bulshit to your churches and your homes... and NOT in the public properties that my taxes pay for. And not just Christian stuff... Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Aetheist... ALL religious stuff to the places your worship.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
