I find it pretty ironic that fans of Pearl Jam are telling fans to leave the political bullshit at home. I mean, COME ON. Up until Backspacer, Ed didn't leave the political bullshit at home! He wore it on his sleeve! And most of his fans ate it up, now someone wants to know if it would be ok to voice his opinion at the upcoming show, and he's being told to just shut up and enjoy the rock?

I would hope that Ed would disagree with you all and encourage this person to exercise their right to freedom and speech.
    Just a thought....

If I were to show up at a show....And wear a shirt that said....

"The West Memphis 3 are CHILD MURDERERS"!!!!!!

How would Mr. Vedder react??? Would he be discussing, and encouraging, my right to freedom of speech???
    Take me piece by piece.....

Yeah most of the replies on here are probably aimed more at the fact they can't imagine someone wanting to wear an anti-Obama shirt than a just a political one in general.

I am not worried about what shirt to wear because I have decided I am not going to wear one. Pants are also optional - that's my political statement right there.

    Exactly...

Mr. Vedder would verbally abuse the shit out of me, right???

And then I would have a few choice words for Mr. Vedder...hehehehehe

Thats why we leave the political and religious bullshit at home....And just enjoy the concert!!!!!

Absolutely not. Even though Ed has sad that and worse about politicians and people he has disliked. Ed doesn't handle opposing viewpoints well. He likes his one-way medium and expects rousing applause to follow, not dissent. (See, Uniondale '03)
  • I say wear what you want...if it's a FUCK OBAMA shirt...COOL!!!

If it's a Pearl jam shirt...COOL!!! fuck what other people think...do what you feel is right!

I may have to go get me a FUCK OBAMA shirt myself....i am very political....no matter where i go or what i do....people who don't like that shit can kiss my ass!

Wear a cow suit. Dress up like Big Bird. Go naked. Who cares?

Well, some of us don't need to go naked I guess.

Yeah, i don't know why the OP is asking. My guess is that it was a fecitious attempt to stir the pot a bit. I was just moderately amused by the replies decrying the statement. I am certain the tune would be sung a whole lot different were this posted last administration.

    That is true most likely.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I never liked all the political stuff at the concerts. I mean I love the band and Eddie of course but could do without it. I think these days you just never know what might happen if you offend someone at a huge gathering of 20,000 people. Emotions are running higher now. Many people had and still have high hopes for Obama. I think we all wish the world was different.

Is that what you told Ed to do between 2000-2008? lol, you can't leave politics home when you see this band, they are all about politics sometimes

you could always just wear your klan hood.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.........I haven't even popped my pills this am and I am laughing. I need to remember to tell my counselors this success story.......the panel will be pleased and surprised..

Pills popped...have read into page two...gunna start warming up my fingers for all these half clever, half thoughtful right wingers on here...... I mean, c'mon, look at the OP's f'n avatar......everyone is entitled to their own opinion but not their own facts,...I have already seen shots fired on here about hypocrisy at its finest. If republicans had anything other than gigantic vaginas, baby rattlers short memories and massive tear ducts we could have something close to an honest discussion on here...you guys cannot remember how much the right railed against any decent and how any call for intelligent policy or seeking of facts (say, before a disasterous war) was met with anti-american shouts that claimed treason and banishment and ended by saying you HAVE TO SUPPORT this president and let him do what he thinks is best.... Yet, this president cannot even appoint completely middle of the road department heads without the republican machine completely attempting to destroy it; destroy areas of governance that have never been open to debate...you guys are like my ex-wife, who said I was so unfair and such a hypocrite simply for finally defending myself, (police report didn't say I actually pushed her down the stairs). AND NO...have never thought about these things at a concert...unless I saw some whacko in an Obama SOCIALIST MARXIST NAZI shirt, and then I might have a fleeting thought like "Hmmm...that person fits in here as well as I do at a Russian Salad Party." Then something/s with glitter or that bounce would distract me.. Never understood how someone can connect so well with the music when the lyrics struggle and question against everything their ignorance stands for...it is like me sitting at a Yankee game, watching the players and tapping my feet to the cheers of the fans surrounding me, but I know I am not retarded, so why am I there??? (calm down, I don't have anything against the yankees that I didnt already mention) anyway....let me go take two reds and a reach into the grab bag before I get going......

Back to hypocrisy...that Obama Joker avatar is from the Tea Party I believe...right?? The original tea party was simplified in our history books to be a protest against "Taxation without Representation", but in actuality, the more complex version is that it was a protest against the Monarch's favored treatment and privilege that it was granting to THE abusive corporation of the day, the East India Trading Company, and the fact that by lowering tariffs on their imports meant that local, small tea growers couldn't compete....hypocrisy is that the Tea Party of 2009 and 2010 have no idea that they are defending the section of abusive corporations at their own cost...the ignorance in relation to what they are asking for at these health care rallies, or what they are vehemently against (Get Government Out Of My MediCare!!!!!) is sad more than anything. That someone has to come on here and ask how it would play out at a show is sad as there is no fluid exchange (don't get excited) between the band and the audience...or at least it should be about vibe and support, not let me see if I can ruffle a feather and swim against the current....I mean, there is nothing wrong with it, but it is kinda bizarre to seek acceptance or whatever this thread is about. Be secure in your depth of knowledge....we want to see you make it past the baby pool this year.....so, go ahead, where that Oboymeignorant Joker shirt....I'll be thinking bad things for 3 seconds......then I better hear In Hiding while not in a beer line (0-2)

My favorite fact of the 2008 election campaign... no, not Palin's wolf count..... Which of the two candidates was born on foreign soil.

McCain, born in Panama....US Military base.....

and, bty....I think I got a good one from the grab bag, so I will have a lot to say over the next 36-96 hours........stay tuned.....

I think I'm gonna wear my Fuck the Yankees T shirt to the Boston show.

And it won't matter cause I am sitting 7 rows back in the balcony.

Wear whatever you want cause unless you are dead center front row, Eddie won't even see you.

You people crack me up. If this were a post 10 years ago and it were about that president it would be perfectly acceptable and applauded. Now though, it's "leave that stuff home!"

Since when is a Pearl Jam show no place to voice a political opinion?

Please. Do some of you really hear yourselves?

Everyone should leave the political GRIEVANCES at home, except for the performers..honestly, they have a right to do whatever the hell they want........if I go to a performance by a band and they decide to spend two hours to talk about Bush's positive legacy or the fact that he really did win the election and that the Republican activist judges on the supreme court really had a right to break all judicial symmetry by giving him the presidency, then I, unfortunately am stuck listening to stuff I completely don't believe.....but I wouldn't go to a Toby Keith concert in Texas... And, I can reasonably imagine that people wearing anything political there that went against Bush or any republican would get hassled whereas the WORST thing that could happen to the dude with 13 posts since 2000 that started this thread would get is a few bad looks and a fleeting comment.

Remember the 11th republican commandment...thou shall never speak ill of another republican. What kind of bull fucking shit is that....... clear as day..... cover cover cover, lie lie lie, hide hide hide......

    I have an idea....

Why not just wear a stickman shirt, or a yield shirt, then go to the shows early, meet up with some friends, tailgate in the parking lot, eat some good food, have an adult beverage or 12, then go see the best rock band on the planet.

    In other words....

Leave the politcal bullshit at home for 3 hours, and enjoy the best rock band on the planet.

    OffMeGoes,

You're making this about ideoligy. The point here is not a pissing contest over Bush/Obama or donkeys versus elephants. That's not really the issue here. The issue is if someone wore a political shirt that is a complete 180 from what the band preaches, would that be kosher? The responses speak for themselves.

thats funny you should mention. While in line for drinks at Philly 4, as I checked out people's shoes, cause my feet were already hurting from Philly 3. I noticed that everyone had on sneakers. I had on slightly heeled flip flops. Hmmmm.
When the night was over and I could actually feel again it was not pretty. I was finding places to sit on the travel home, ledges, windowsills, steps, my husband! Guess I may consider sensible shoes if I have too.

Yeah - if you do back to back shows you need good shoes. My wife made that mistake one time too - I she had to keep sitting for a minute here and there during the encores because that second night she started feeling it early. I guess that's what being on your feet for two days in sandals will do... :)

I found the response and timing to be very funny. I didn't realize this turned into an all out critique. If it really is, I would like to revisit the size of your elongated clitoris and perhaps open that back up for outside perspective. It is small, and maybe we are missing something that we just cannot see with our untrained eyes...

That and I think Republicans are racist to the core.

By my count there were 3 "I don't think anyone cares" replies to start the thread. Then came the, "Leave that BS home!" and a rather crude remark about the KKK.

Saying you don't care is one thing. Telling someone to 'leave it home/there's no place for that here' is akin to saying "Shut up" in my book. And that's the hypocrisy I speak of. (I'm assuming you're referring to me as one of the sinipers.)

I consider myself a Libertarian, and I really despise some of the things Obama has done, and what he plans to do.
The band is has always made a point to give us their opinion, how does the TenClub mass feel about people wearing ant-Obama shirts to the upcoming shows?

As a fellow Libertarian, I would suggest something more positive; maybe a Ron Paul shirt. In my opinion, anti-whatever shirts and images like your avatar contribute to the shit discourse in our country right now. We have a lot of problems...show your support for where you believe the solutions are. Telling someone who or what you don't like doesn't open a dialogue, it just creates antipathy.
