To me, all 'fan' boards are the same. Some believe the band they follow are gods with no other band reaching their ankles. Elevate one band, put down others.

On the Soundgarden board... Pearl Jam not relevant, dinosaurs
On the PJ board - Soundgarden sucks, passed it, etc.

On both boards - some people quite excited about both bands!

just the natural way people are.
  • Why post on a bulletin board if not to over analyze?

  • Ridiculous statement - are you basing this on any empirical evidence? The folly of your logic is only more clearly illuminated now.
just to point out i didnt say the pearl jam fan base was any better, but seem to be at least more accepting of a band with a similar background

I'm unashamedly a 90s dork - Stoked that I'm seeing Pearl Jam in 12 days, stoked that Soundgarden is back (and hopeful I'll get to see them play), stoked that STP is still around and that they kicked ass when I saw them last year, and pissed that I missed seeing AIC in Houston with Our Lady Peace last year (I might go to my grave regretting that one).

One thing about some SG fans that I found a little disturbing (not from their boards though) was the reaction to the person who won their ticket competition on Friday. She was a young black girl, and from the reaction of some of the posters on their Twitter page (I think it was there - they linked to the photo from their Twitter page and the comments were beneath the pic) you'd think the world was ending. A number of people posted that she didn't "look like" a SG fan, and that they should've asked her to name a song by the band (other than Black Hole Sun) to prove she was worthy of getting the tickets. As if somehow being a non-white person under the age of 30 means there's no possible way you could ever be a fan of SG. I don't know what bothered people more - the fact that she was black, or the fact that she was young - but some people seemed really put off by the fact that she won the Nudedragons tickets.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

Yeah... jealousy, ignorance... there are idiots everywhere. That wasn't cool at all.

I've been posting a bit over there... didnt really pick up on any extreme snobbery...

I just never seem to be able to muster up the same enthusiasm for new boards tho... no matter how much i love the band

I've just been here too damn long
