Last time in Detroit, 2006 at the Palace, they did not come close to selling out and put up the black curtain in the upper bowl opposite the stage. Great show, but not a sell out. The days of Pearl Jam selling out 20,000 seat venues in the Midwest (outside of Chicago) are probably over. Doesn't mean they still shouldn't hit these cities.

    Should have came to Detroit..

every band i've seen at the palace came nowhere near selling it out. i think pearl jam had the second largest audience i've seen there, next to eric clapton. a lot of bands put the black curtain around the entire upper bowl, so having it just in the back isn't too bad.
take into consideration too that the palace has A LOT of seats for a concert (23,000)... so if they sell 19,000 tickets, that leaves 4,000 empty seats.... most arenas don't hold 19,000 people for concerts. i'm rambling now, but my point is is that the palace is huge and empty seats can be misleading lol

by the fact that columbus, st. louis, kansas city, etc. are not only NOT sold out, but not even CLOSE to sold out?

i'm telling everybody i know in columbus to go, but it'll be a bit embarrassing if mighty pearl jam can't even sell 80% of the seats.

    No.

Very good points...though Tool sold the Palace out on the 10,000 Days tour. But you are 100% right, the Palace is one of the largest arenas around. Not a lot of sell-outs.

Maybe they should just play smaller venues in those cities?

Don't worry about it. It'll be whatever it is.

They waited until the last minute to announce the show.
If it doesn't sell out, maybe next time they will give people more advance notice?! (!!!)

I wonder if the price of tickets has anything to do with it also....

So which is it? Do we want the band to "sell out" or do we not want them to "sell out"? Which is it??!!!

Hell yes.. They could actually play IN Detroit. At Joe Louis Arena or Cobo.. That would be sweet

  • For Indy, i just did a search for the best seats available and I came up with lawn seats. That is pretty good considering we are still about three weeks away from the concert. As i remember from back in 2003, there were still open seats in the pavillion. It is going to be a pretty big draw that night.

That's easy. Of course it's better if they "sell out". Any idiot knows that.

Kansas City is mostly sold out. Until they must have released some closer tickets today, the closest section that was coming back was the back of the arena (or 2nd level, halfway back from the stage). You won't even notice it's not completely full.
106 Row 6 was probably a ten club pair that was just released or something... that was not coming up any of the other times I've checked, from shortly after they went on sale to just a few days ago.

This is the beginning of PJ becoming a strictly east coast/west coast/chicago touring band.

Bzzzt, wrong. The beginning was a long time ago... Pearl Jam has become an east coast/west coast/Chicago touring band since pretty much 2006... 2003 was the last real tour. That's almost a decade. Yeah they MIGHT throw in 2 or 3 cities not on the coasts/Chicago. These are those cities for that tour.

Perhaps it's time (or past time) for them to do a 270-degree seating arrangement. Yeah, you'd lose those seats up close behind the stage, but at least everyone would be either to the band's side, or facing the band.
Presidential Advice from President-Elect Mike McCready: "Are you getting something out of this all encompassing trip?"
  • Well, their summer tour fell apart (likely because of Soundgarden's reunion) so I feel like we're lucky to get just this little short stint. Not much of a notice because it was thrown together so quickly. We easily could have gotten nothing. So - little notice and not quite selling out shows vs. no shows at all.

Weird... its 106 Row 10 now. It seems like more than just a small release of tickets, but obviously if you were pulling the upper level before they must have been released from somewhere.
