Very quiet here too. Heard a "volcano expert" on the radio this morning and he reckons it's a huge over-reaction. Apparently they have done test flights over the weekend and all planes came off AOK...mustn't have been QANTAS planes they were using then!:lol:

perhaps they shoulda used QANTAS planes, cause we as we know QANTAS never crashes. ;)
    hear my name
    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand
    lie beside me
    i just need to say

I read an article with some expert saying this volcano could keep erupting for the next few months.
I hope not, flying to Europe in August :?

I know this is causing heartache for those wishing to travel but......

I enjoyed the sunshine in my garden over the week-end with NO AIRCRAFT NOISE!!!!! It was bliss.

  • It's just be on the news than the Met Office have said the ash cloud may reach the East Coast of America by 18;00 GMT. If the clouds spreads over Eastern America, how many more flights is that going to cancel?!

I think Mother Nature's fighting back against us!!
It's gonna be a glorious day...

just heard on the news that byu the end of today 63000 flights will have been cancelled because of this. there is also some conjecture as to whether this shutdown was absolutely necessary to the extent it was.
Well I can't remember when a previous volcanic eruption caused so many problems. It's typical of the elf and safety mentality we have that prevents anyone having the balls to admit it's over reaction. Airlines were running test flights at the weekend and finding no problems. Nobody wants to be the first to admit it's OK to go and they want someone to blame if there is a problem.

Better to be cautious though, it has happened before where a plane went through an ash cloud and all 4 engines went.
I know I wouldn't want to risk it just so I could go on holiday.

Just read that a couple of fighters got into trouble (not sure where). Maybe they'll stop a bit where you are!

From BBC live updates: "1207 Nato fighter jets have suffered engine damage after flying through volcanic ash cloud, a senior US official has said. The official gave few details except to say that a build-up of glass was found in the jet engines." NATO could be anywhere. You might get lucky and, out of 'precaution' ground the ones in Greece!

My daughters had their holiday rearranged for Mid may so they've gone from being gutted to happier now. :) My mate is still stuck in Madrid but thinks there are worse places. :P My wife's friend is stuck in Benidorm and thinks there aren't many worse places. :( I'm stuck here at home but will hopefully get away next Tuesday. Fingers crossed.
