Clearly they all had great influences. Eventually though it became a Robertson, Helm thing. And Robertson is a dick. I love Levon, Seen him live 5 tyimes and he never gets old. I even saw him play with Bob Wier fronting his band cause he couldnt sing. Sick. But I digress. Here's an awsome story:

For the Last. Waltz, as you know many famous people were invited to play with them: ranging from Neil Young, Neil Diamond, ROnnie Hawkins, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, etc..... Well no one invited, and no one in The Band actually like Neil Diamond. But Robbie Robertson love him, they were best friends. Neil Diamond is apparently a prick. Well, after playing, while walking off stage. Neil Diamond passes by Bob Dylan (as he is walking on stage), and says to him 'try and top that Bobby'....so Bob Dylan looks at him and says 'what do I have to do, put them to sleep?' hahahahahahy classic story.

If that's true thats out of control. They must have had to turn it on for the songs that he sung lead for and turn it off otherwise. Yea at that point in time Robertson and Levon were not on good terms at all. Robertson was trying to make it his band (even though it was really Levon Helms band....alla Levon and the Hawks). But yea, you can't bump Muddy Waters. Not only is he a blue god, but hes Levons best friend and neighbor (I saw Muddy Waters preform with Levon at his midnight ramble....the annual concert he holds in his barn....unreal). Levons contention was if neil diamond plays so does muddy waters

    seems more than fair imo.

i have to say martin scorsese annoys the bejesus out of me in the last waltz. almost as much as my heart breaks watching richard.

yea, his specialty definately isn't filming, directing, producing major concerts lol. Wonder what it would have been like if Speilberg or Tarentino could have scored this job.

Three everyday geeky guys who love their *bowls of soup* on their own time, true professionals on the stage that NEVER dissappoint.....and you bumped into them on the street most peeps wouldn't have a clue who they are. One of the few rock bands who've had such major influence on rock music for more than a quarter century.

They have truly been *Graceful Under Pressure* .....I can't wait to hear *Moving Picture* in it's entirety this summer.
