    Oh I bet I get it wrong too. First flag I would think was 1776 or 1777 depending on how quickly it got done and agreed upon. And I have no idea when the current flag was complete (50 stars).

    I admit I could have worded that one a bit differently. ;) I was just trying to make a point: A flag is a symbol, and symbol's have their uses, but I just don't think people should take them too seriously.

    That is an archaic quote that is being used. Think about the language; think about what is being said and how. Read the Lord of the Rings or any medieval fantasy novel or poem and the language will be the same. We should be careful not to romanticize the past for the justification of the present.
