I noticed under the tour section the May 18th TBA show is not listed. Have they dropped this as a possible show date? Has anyone heard anything?

uh oh...that tells me there is probably going to be a playoff game that night, which means no Boston 2. Certainly not a good sign.

Has it ever been on there? I noticed that it wasn't there like a week ago and wasn't sure if it had always been like that.

IF there is going to be a May 18th show they have to announce it this week because it is only a month away. If no announcement this week then there will be no show. :(

Yup, I'd say if we don't hear something by Friday 4/16 then it's probably a no-go.
  • It is still listed in the original tour announcement page.

Hopefully they will determine it necessary SOMEWHERE.

Neil Young opens his solo tour at Albany's Palace Theater on May 18. Tickets are a hundo minimum. Tough.

If PJ has no concert that night, I'd expect Eddie to be at the Neil Young show. Or, maybe they take A-town in separate shows on the same night.

The Palace and arena are a mile apart on Pearl Street. No joke.

Good point. Pearl Jam will open for Neil Young at the Palace in Albany. They'll close with "Animal" and "Free World."

Not sure the age 40 and over N. Young fans will appreciate the drunken Pearl Jam fans talking over Neil's solo stuff before the closer. Come to think of it, some of those dudes actually got kicked out of Eddie's solo show for loudness.

I was at Neil's solo Boston show in March 1999. "Old Man" was half sung by half the audience. Almost worse than the full-throated drunken Beantown fan. "Pocahontas" on the 12-string for an encore that night. Stunning. Everyone shut up for that.

Bruins and Celtics have to go past the first round for playoffs to even matter on May 18th. I don't doubt it's not possible, but upsets happen. However, I work at Pepsi Center and with the Nuggets last year, we had to cancel the WWE show due to a playoff date, mainly cause they wouldn't get pushed to a different. Hope that doesn't happen, either.

I replied on this topic in a different thread but figured I'd add some info here too.

Heard on WAAF last week in an interview with a Red Sox Chairman that they had approached Pearl jam for a Fenway concert but their schedules didn't match. The Red Sox aren't at fenway that week until the 19th, so maybe they need more than one day for break-down and cleanup of the field? The guy said it was "unlikely" at that point they would make something happen.

I'm sure they were waiting on Bruins/Celtics to finalize a second date, plus it could depend on ticket sales for the 5/17 show. Has that even sold out yet?

The problem I have with the May 18th in Boston theory is that if we were really waiting for the Celtics and Bruins playoff schedules, why would they be willing to schedule on May 17th? If the NHL or NBA schedule a game on the 17th, maybe that show moves to the 18th. I think there's a possibility that they scheduled the 17th and put the 18th as TBD so that more people would plan to be in town on the 18th anyway. If it works out that neither team is playing, then maybe we get a second show. In the meantime, it could just be a backup date in case of a playoffs conflict.

nah...i don't think so....i think it was a matter of "no matter what happens to the C's & B's they can work around 1 show....but we need to wait and see what's up with them before we can add a second"
  • I was hoping they'd play Albany that day. Didn't know that is the first date of Neil's concert...if I knew that Pearl Jam or Eddie solo would be opening for Neil, I'd so get tickets.

Maybe some other place besides Boston or Albany that is between NYC and Boston?

Yeah, I'd give it until Friday (which would be almost one month before the show). Although my buddy was quite clear (even saying his friend has already secured him tix) that the second show was happening, I'm still a little skeptical.

I'll call him again mid-week if we haven't heard anything by then.

Agree that it is this week or never. Still holding out hope but am concerned now that the Bruins have also gotten in. The worst part is that regardless of what the playoff schedule looks like at the outset there is a very good chance that either the Bruins and/or the Celtics will be eliminated in the first round and the Garden will be sitting empty that night.

Oh for the love of GOD will this rumor NEVER go away? Pay attention, would ya? Fenway has already booked their first crap-ass concert for the summer. And yes, it takes more than 1 day to build a stage, hold a concert & break down the stage. That's more like a 10 day road trip thing, see: Dave Matthews last May, Paul McCartney last August.
    Enough! With the Fenway rumors..

  • May 18th should be a Ten Club only show at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI. That would be nuts!

I don't think the NHL and NBA work around venues when the venues have primarily been built for those teams, I think it's the other way around.

The only thing I can think of would be for them to play another 10c only show on lettermans stage. God I hope that happens cuz I'd be there with NO problem. That's one place I have a sick ass connection for!!! So please let it be letterman!!!!

We know the Bruins are in as a 6 seed and it looks like the C's will be in as a 4 seed. I believe the Bruins open on the road Thursday, and the Celtics will open at home on Saturday.

What does this all mean? I'm not really sure, other than playoff schedules should be pretty firmed up. If we aren't hearing something in the next couple days (Friday at the latest, I'd assume) I think Boston 2 is a no-go and I'll be scrounging for Hartford tix.

This is the Rumors and News thread, no? Thought I was pretty clear in trying to bring some truth to the "rumor". Actually, I squashed the rumor, but lets not let facts get in the way here or anything.
