I have 2 grade 10's and a grade 11 class. All three are guitar classes.

What is the best song to introduce them to pearl jam? they have no idea what they are in for ;)

Video would be awesome with it. as i bring in youtube video's of bands all the time.

Make sure you don't tell them it is Pearl Jam until AFTER. Being in high school myself, I know that there are a lot of people who would just think "Pearl Jam? I've heard them on the radio! Sell-outs!" For specific songs, maybe State of Love and Trust or Off He Goes.

I'd go with RVM and Unthought Known, but definitely RVM

Rearviewmirror is a must! Then try out Alive, Why Go, Animal!
  • I'm 15. World Wide Suicide, Dissident, Last Kiss, RVM, Animal, and Better Man are what really got my attention.

But I like the above suggestion of not telling them the artist until after. Whenever I start talking about them to friends, half of them just say something like "damn, old farts."
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

  • im somewhat close to highschool age, and for me it would be almost anything from yield, especially being faithfull.

that being said, for most of my friends who arent pj fans, they seem to like elderly woman, alive, black, and the fixer the best. i say eff it, teach them your favorite song, and your passion for it will make them at least respect it. unless theyre complete jackasses

Off he goes - easy to learn, the first PJ song I learnt on guitar. Nothing against 'daughter' but the tunings on that one are different. That's just my laziness shining through. Or go with 'Present tense', 'Indifference' or even 'Hunger strike'. They are all fairly easy to pick up... :)

Agree. My son used lyrics from Not for You in his HS yearbook.

The YOUTUBE of the SNL version would be cool. You could even expalin the background story of Cobain's death preceeding the performance
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
    ride"!
