My rebellious act of the week.

I got the census and for "race" I checked off "other" and wrote "human".
What is race really? How is it important?.. If we keep dividing people into groups based on appearances, how are we ever going to get rid of racism?
Do we really need to keep track of how many blacks, whites, mexicans, hybrids, vulcans there are?..
Fucking governent doesn't need to know how much pigment I have in my skin.

damn, that's some hard core shit....
what was your rebellious act last week...?
I'm essentially a northern european mutt, but that's what, 10,000 years family influence in a million years of human existance?.. as far as culture goes, I would classify myself as Chicagoan or Midwesterner. There's definite American cultural diffences in the U.S., starting with the accents.
+1
Godfather.
I want to party with you sometime...
This is exactly what I was trying to say in the Census thread. I totally agree.
Plus - what is the definition of each race? And aren't we all of mixed race at this point anyway?
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
haha, i went to the post office last week and there was a number ticket dispenser with a sign that said "take a number"....i took three of them, fight the power...
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
Hail, Hail!!!
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
dunno... but last night i had a little black in me.

Don't tell that to an Israeli. It would undermine the whole justification for their psuedo-country.
Always gives the barber something to look forward to. :P
Only a little? I'm sorry.
I thought that party line was from that movie...

I was going to say something like that.
My defiant act....I reused my sweet iced tea cup for the 4th from McD's the only thing I buy from the place.

That reminds me of a line someone once said, "they call me tuna can, I might not be able to hit the back but I can sure F up the sides."
I think many, many Americans are of mixed race. I think that should be an option.
It really bothers me that they have the options "Hispanic" or "Non-hispanic." Neither one works for me.
What about people like me who are partially Hispanic? I'm not entirely Hispanic, I'm not entirely non-Hispanic. There should be a third option! :x
It bugged me in the last census and it bugged me this time too.
How do YOU define yourself? Do you consider yourself as more 'Hispanic' or less?
Like the Original Poster stated, 'Human' is how he defines himself. He will get dropped in the 'Others' category.
Hail, Hail!!!
I am an American. I just happen to have Mexican grandparents and a Mexican American dad.
I don't really know the culture though (because I only met them once!) so I would not call myself Hispanic except that biologically I am, indeed, half Hispanic.
BUT, really, why do we have to classify ourselves as one or the other anyway? Why can't there be a box to check for "mixture."
Then, check the others box and write that in, with the understanding that 'American' is not a race.
NOTE: You will be counted as others... with the people who wrote Human, Homo Sapien, Arabic, Persian, Martian, Scientologist, Jewish, Dogman, Batboy, American, Urchin, etc...
Hail, Hail!!!
I am aware that "American" is not a race.
As a family, we decided to choose "Caucasian" because the three males are carrying an Italian last name.
and there you have it.
...
On a side note... that is funny and ironic... or sad and ironic... is that the 'scared of the government' folks who will listen to Michelle Bachman will not get counted... while the Mexicans and Black they hate so much... will be counted and the federal funding will be tailored more towards the minority community, than theirs.
So... i guess it's more like poetic justice... that their campaign of fear and misinformation they created ends up crapping all over them.
Hail, Hail!!!
Yes. Well, I think it's bad that this system DIVIDES people by making them pick a label for themselves.
Wouldn't it be great if all Americans could just be "American people" without having to be labeled by any race at all? That's why I called myself American. I think as a group, we will eventually be known as the stew that all the immigrant ingredients created.
They're like mine. Little American stew babies.
