With a number like 64xxx, I think you've probably witnessed their best shows, which I believe (song-to-song comparisons) were in those early 90's years.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

    I'm with David, I hope.

Every time they tour, I think they sounded better than the time before. Let's hope that holds true for the upcoming shows.

I would actually say their live shows have consistently gotten better over time.

I would say this is correct from the 1998 period. I don't think their 1998+ performances will ever touch their 1992-1194 performances of the same songs, but their 2009 shows have been killer in comparison to the previous 11 years.

Interesting point... I think that if you take some of the big Ten/Vs tracks... the pre 95 shows are going to beat the post 96-98 shows. Like Black... so much more energy in those 95 and older shows. Jeremy, Deep, Blood, Leash... they all had a lot more energy then.

That said- I'd take shows today over that time period anyday! Matter of fact.. I'd take a setlist of what they do now over a 94 show any day!

How about identical setlist from 1993 versus 2006? Which do you prefer the sound of on identical songs?

I'd take now. The rage stuff was exciting to listen to, but at the same time, they were a bit sloppy back then. I think the band is better now. After all, it's not Eddie and the Pearl Jams.

I think he was saying their best show ever performed up to this point. It's not downhill from here, who's to say they can't top their already best performance.

You state the best hasn't happened. How can the best of anything be something that hasn't happened?

I was mainly just throwing the subject out there to see some reactions...have some conversations. I firmly believe any show I was at, was better than any show I wasn't at.

  • i don't think you can debate any bands best show ever. too many factors with the biggest one being new studio albums being released.

I have to agree and hope this is true. As a famous new england quarterback responded when asked which super bowl victory was the greatest he responded "the next one!"

The last batch of West coast shows (and Philly, of course) leave me extremely hopeful. I think the smaller tours give the band more energy every night, and they are really mixing up their sets. Pretty much every show on the West Coast tour last fall was top notch

Nothing can beat '92-'94 for energy. It was effortless back then.

'98-'00 maybe they were just going through the motions. There were a lot of lyrical errors bt Ed.

2003+ we not get a complete effort, always a good show for the fans. Seem to be really concerned about giving effort to the fans.

Of identical songs I'd take 93... of overall show I'd take 2006.

I forgot Porch in my earlier post - thinking of Porch/Black/Blood/RVM/etc 91-95 vs Porch/Black/Blood/RVM/etc now... how can you NOT take the 90s versions?

After watching countless hours & hours of video footage of the band between those years, the running around the stage, the jumping, the crowd surfing, the sweating, the moving, the shaking & feeling of each song played every night in small clubs & little forums kicked so much ass it was totally unreal. The best PJ show's that ever did happen .. happened between those years.

When Dave left Pearl Jam, the fans were sad & we all lost a friend. 5 against 1 was no more. From Hit Paradar to Spin, it was the big headline. All those rough cities, those small hot clubs, mosh pitting crowds, very fast paced nights, no breaks just keep playing & playing. Dave was right there behind that drum kit. I don't know much about drumming but watching him play on stage amazed the hell out of me. If you attended one of those show's back in '92-'94, then yes, you have experience one of the best Pearl Jam show's of all time.
