It's a sad day in rock and roll when no one even acknowledges Jimi Hendrix on a list like this. Not only was he a phenomenal frontman but he is the greatest guitar player who ever lived. No argument.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

I thought we were talking about Liam Finn.

That is funny. I saw Oasis once and thought the concert was pretty weak due to the stage presence of Liam. His voice is amazing, but I thought his condescending looks to the crowd and overall look of annoyance took away from the concert.

That is so funny, I thought the opposite, loved his arrogance on stage, thought his voice sucked.

Liam has been named the Greatest Frontman Of All Time by readers of Q Magazine. No argument from us.

When he's on stage, he commands your attention whether it be snarling out every word with limitless passion or challenging the audience to a staring out match (which he always wins!). His trademark stance - leaning up towards the mic, arms behind his back - is known the world over and has become iconic in its own right. And we literally have no idea how many tambourines he's got through over the years!

But all of this takes a backseat when it comes to the music. Put simply, he has one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in rock and roll.

We have our favourite performances of his and we're sure you have yours too so why not crank them up and raise a glass to him!

Any list of good frontmen that does not include Trent Reznor is junk to me.

  • There is no sentence in English, or any other language for that matter, with the words "Liam Gallagher is the greatest..." that makes any real sense.

If there was a biggest loudmouth , ignorant prick award then, of course, he would triumph spectacularly.

The list is a joke. Eddie Vedder's absence is shocking, but not surprising. However, as for Thom Yorke and Roger Daltrey...both British, both not on the list. Chris Martin?:lol::lol::lol:

That there list ain't worth a fart in a hurricane.
It's gonna be a glorious day...
  • You say "Liam" as though it's supposed to be obvious who you're talking about. Liam Gallagher? Please. He wouldn't even make a Top 100 list in America...

One of the things I look for in a frontman is other than foremost his ability to sing and play his instrument is his ability to energize the crowd. also to make that particular city his band is playing feel as though it's the only city they're playing on that tour. Basically making that city and those fans feel special, none other does it better than Michael Franti.

It's a unique trait that many frontmen don't or WON'T try and pull off. Many do so by just mentioning the city they're playing but few go to the lenghts Michael Franti will go to make you feel special to him and his band. He told me once, if you can't make your fans feel special how is it that they will make the band feel special. He'll get his fans involved by singing, clapping, dancing and by far his fans better be ready to do some jumping. Nothing worse than a dead crowd and it's that frontman's job to in some extent to enliven the crowd through a song, on stage energy and fan interaction. To me he's a master of this and strangely he learned this from Bono whom he first toured with back in 92' when he was in Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

Last month when he played here in DC he went to the lenghts of getting crowd reaction (while playing up in the stands of the lower deck) of do you love the Washington Capitals, Wizards, Redskins and oddly never mentioned anything political. Naturally the crowd screamed but one complaint of MF is that at times he talks TOO much especially about the political spectrum. However, that's part of his makeup Music and Politics.

*MUSIC IS the expression of EMOTION.....and that POLITICS IS merely the DECOY of PERCEPTION*

I'm not sure Waters/Gilmour are great 'frontmen' per se. Love their music, but they're certainly not the classic rock and roll front men.
