MySpace dying a slow, cringing death.

It's funny how things change. I hardly ever used myspace, but I had a few friends on there from college. Once in a while I get an email from myspace. The most recent one said:

Subject:Latest news from your MySpace friends

Mike
Mood: bored

...and the previous email update I got was from a friend saying "I'm finally deleting my account - Contact me if you need my info"

The death of myspace is gonna be really long and drawn out, isn't it? :?

Nope. I guess since I never really used myspace, I didn't know it was dead already. Sounds like old news.

The new thing is writing letters to loved ones.

That doesn't concern me as much as possibly receiving handwritten letters with abbreviations like "How R U doin?" in cursive.

yup...we still use it to post new songs. we get quite a few hits, so i guess people are still checking it out. it's a good online tool to get your music out there for booking smaller gigs &making your music available the day that you record it.

Myspace pretty much gave up as a normal social network a couple years ago and have been concentrating on bands since.

Ironic, since I believe that was what Myspace was intended to do when they began in the first place.

  • I have a Myspace account but rarely long-on anymore.

I Signed up to Myspace to find family and friends.
After being on there for maybe a week I saw I had a message in my inbox.
It was from a girl whom I didn't know. Her exacted words were "Hello,How are you"

It turned into weeks of talking on the computer.
Then I found the courage to ask her on a date.

This coming June will be 3 years since our first date.

It is very ironic. Yeah, in the begining they saw bands as their market but they never really had any direction. They just kept throwing ideas out and running with them, but nothing that would make myspace sustainable as a social network. Their goal was to have a social network with minimal rules and that is exactly what killed them.

That's really the only positive thing for MySpace. It's a nice tool for musicians.

My personal opinion, it's a crapshoot. As a social networking site there are far too many stupid ass advertisements and overall I just hate the design of the site...I say farewell with a smile.

Haven't used MySpace in close to 3 years, and I haven't missed it. Facebook for me is a much more simple way of networking.

    Bye bye, MySpace.

  • I prefer Myspace to Facebook... actually. Myspace is the place where you find fun and illegal activities to participate in. Facebook is the place where you get caught for doing those things. Not to mention all the douchebags left. And my mom isn't on Myspace.

I do think Facebook is around for the long haul. It is gigantic and they have done a great job. I would recommend them to not change the interface as often although all people will do is complain, they wont stop using it unless they really fuck something up (which is dont see happening).

The difference between Myspace and Facebook is that Facebook has some really really smart people running it and all Mysapce was, was a bunch of people with a lot of ideas, barely any capital and were always arguing. They had no plan and it showed. They ran a lot of shady shit on the web before myspace.

Edit: I am not on Facebook (assume I will give in eventually) nor was on I Myspace but work/ed with both professionally.

I've never been on myspace or facebook. I always thought I was behind the times. The fact that they are coming to an end, does that mean I was ahead of the times? That would be cool.

It's good for music. In fact, the first thing I think about when I hear myspace is music. I rarely use it for communicating with friends anymore, but I like checking out musicians' pages.
