Where have you pointed out in the constitution that congress has the right to impose the mandate/fine system? ( <
that is a question ) your just making shit up now.

Should I go back and point to Article III, Section 8 again?

Thirdly is a bunch of jibberish stuff.

Just because you can't understand legal terminology, you dismiss it as gibberish?
Whatever, dude. Not only are the states filing the lawsuits on shaky legal ground to begin with, they can't even cite relevant case law to back them up. No Court is going to take them seriously now.
Lastly, the department of justice is CREATING the law.

    *sigh*
The Department of Justice is a part of the EXECUTIVE Branch. The Executive does not create the law. That job belongs to the Legislative Branch, i.e. Congress. The Executive enforces the law.
You really need to re-read some basic high school civics textbooks again.

    Next question.

Barack Obama's landmark health reforms marred by Biden gaffe

TV cameras pick up vice-president's Anglo-Saxon aside at ceremony to seal passage of healthcare legislation

    * Richard Adams in Washington
    * guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 23 March 2010

After decades of struggle and months of political in-fighting, Barack Obama stood poised to sign into law historic reforms to America's healthcare system. But first his vice-president had to have his foot removed from his mouth.

At a White House ceremony for Obama to seal passage of the legislation by giving it his signature, vice-president Joe Biden gave an introduction praising Obama's leadership. "Mr President, you're the guy that made it happen," he said, before embracing Obama and excitedly whispering in his ear: "This is a big fucking deal!" The aside may have been meant for Obama's ears alone but it was picked up the microphone on the podium and broadcast to the watching television audience of millions.

Applause drowned out Biden's comment to the dignitaries in the East Room but the reaction on blogs and cable news channels was instantaneous. "The vice-president used a word that most of us would never use in front of our mother," said CNN anchor Rick Sanchez, explaining why his network bleeped out the remark in its replays. Ben Smith, a blogger for the Politico website, labelled it: "The mother of all Biden moments."

Shortly after, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs embraced Biden's slip, by writing on Twitter: "And yes, Mr Vice President, you're right."

It certainly isn't the first time that Biden has let his tongue get the better of his brain. Long before Obama chose him to be his vice-president, Biden was renowned for his gaffes. During the Democratic presidential primaries, Biden apologised for describing Obama as "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate, and bright and clean, and a nice-looking guy". In 2008 Biden urged a wheelchair-using local politician at a rally in Missouri: "Stand up', Chuck, let them see you."

Biden isn't the first vice-president to resort to Anglo-Saxon. Dick Cheney told Democratic senator Patrick Leahy to "fuck yourself" during a dispute on the floor of the Senate in 2004. Even Cheney's boss, George W Bush, was once caught on video describing a journalist as a "major-league asshole".

Biden should remember the words of John Nance Garner, vice-president under Franklin Roosevelt, who said: "The vice-presidency isn't worth a pitcher of warm piss."

Well I think there is an enormous difference between driving a car and simply being alive while you happen to live in America, and happen not to be Native American, and happen not to be religious.

I have health insurance and from my understanding this bill does not affect me at all.

But I think it is absolutely wrong to require someone to directly purchase something they do not want.

I'm under no requirement to purchase car insurance, UNLESS I want to drive.

I'm under no requirement to buy a stamp UNLESS I want a letter delivered.

Yet under this legislation many will be required to pay insurance companies for services they do not want (or in some cases do not need). What is their option? Honestly, what is their option? If they are alive they must pay insurance companies? Insane. And I'm no lawyer but it certainly doesn't sound constitutional to me.

But it sure sounds like a fine way to pick up a bunch of new customers for your business now doesn't it?

ummm then you must think it unconstitutional to have to pay any tax be it state sales tax or federal income tax

or maybe we should sue the local government for charging us property tax to pay for schools even if we don't have kids in our district

Oh, so now taxes = fines and penalties? For not purchasing something from a private company? Interesting.

It seems like their are good things in the bill, but to me it still leaves people at the mercy of the insurance companies. Who is going to police them? Make sure they follow the rules? Can they jack up premiums before the full effects of the bill? I still think their are a lot of unknowns!!! I fail to see how forcing people to buy from a private company = taxes so this involves the irs? I've been critical of ours in the past, but I'll keep our system with it's faults as opposed to yours.

I have to agree with you there. Our government can be crooked at times but would never force us to buy from a private company then sick revenue canada on our ass.

That's one of the problems I have with it. Overall, I think it's awesome that people can no longer be kicked off their health insurance plan for getting sick, and that insurance companies can no longer limit the amount of money they pay out to any one person who gets sick.

However... more people getting insurance means the companies will be paying out more in claims, and I'm not sure if there's anything in the bill that prevents the insurance companies from jacking up their prices to cover the increased cash outflow. I haven't read the whole thing, but I haven't seen any of the talking heads on TV discussing it either, which leads me to believe that either A) there's nothing in the bill about it, or B) the talking heads on TV were too lazy to read the thing (and that NEVER happens, right? lol).
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

I think it's a good thing somebody is taking on health care reform. I think there are definite areas that could be improved. I don't think the United States was euthanizing the poor until 2 p.m. yesterday. I think that's an exaggeration.

    again you are MISREPRESENTING

no one here said euthanize, I gave a legitimate example of cancer which you dismissed and took it to the extreme

Of course, I'm exaggerating. My point is, I thought our foreign friend had the wrong idea, and I was trying to paint a more accurate picture for him. He seemed under the impression that we were letting people die in the streets, which wasn't exactly the case.

I've agreed -- only about a million fucking times -- that health care needed reforming. I don't know why you insist on splitting hairs over and over. It doesn't matter. It's a moot point. It was a discussion between me and one other poster that you jumped into the middle of completely out of context.

There's a very important provision where insurance companies are required to make public their balance sheets, and that they're required to spend 80-85% of their premiums towards paying claims.

Here in Ontario it's estimated 50% of our tax dollars go to our health care, and no one is denied service, I just don't see how the government can accurately say how much health care subsidies will cost them, our go vernment can't accurately predict health care cost from year to year and we've been doing it along time. Good luck I doubt this health care debate is close to over. I would almost think premiums are going to go through the roof to cover high risk people and people who would otherwise be denied insurance. Why wouldn't the government insure those people? I would think the insurance people will spread the rate increase's around so every one gets an increase. I find it most interesting that most of these changes will not come into effect until after the 2012 election, hmmmmmmmmm!!!

what do you think would happen if you did not pay your taxes....???? fines and penalties

I know that difference is the private company, and yes I would prefer that it was ran by the government in a universal, single payer plan but that can not happen... look at the debate and hatred over this current plan what do you think would happen if there was a complete government take over...

BTW do you sit in your house without electricity or heat? How many electric companies do you have in your town? Aren't you forced to buy something that you need from a private company with the fear of fees and penalities if you do not pay?

But I digress because I believe that utilities should be ran by the government as well

I'm very skeptical that now this big fucking deal is done, we'll ever have single-payer.
  • Like Hell I'm Going To Let Some Black President Help Me Pay For Dialysis

I take pride in who I am. Always have, always will. I've worked hard my whole life and have never taken anyone's charity, and I'm not about to start now, no matter what. I'm telling you, there's no way I'm going to sit back and let some black president of the United States try to devise a structure to help me pay for the dialysis treatment I so desperately need to survive.

    Not over my dead body.

Just who does this Afro-American occupant of the highest office in the land think he is, anyway? Look, I've got nothing against black people, but some of them act like the whole world owes them something. For example, important government subsidies on my dialysis.

You know, I don't recall asking for some black commander in chief to embrace protections that would prohibit insurance companies from dropping my coverage on a whim and operating as if my continued existence on earth were nothing more than a strategic liability. Plus, if I go along with this progressive health-benefits scheme, he'll probably hold it over my head every time I receive vital care with the aid of the government to which I already pay taxes.

Sorry. I've got too much self-respect for that.

Obama needs to know that there's still one American willing to watch his body drown in its own deadly internal toxins rather than have long-overdue reform crammed down his throat.

Fact is, nobody wants some too-big-for-his-britches black president butting in to suggest that everyone, including me, needs to be treated with dignity. Yet this Obama thinks he can just waltz in and and tinker with a health care system that destroys people like myself every single day.

Can you imagine what'd it be like if he weren't just half black?

Seriously, when Obama's done drumming up support for legislation that might allow me to see my daughter graduate from college and prevent me from dying before my 50th birthday, what's next on the agenda? Will he try to keep my life's savings from evaporating in a stock market that operates free of serious governmental oversight? Is there any aspect of capitalism run amok that this guy won't tamper with? Really, Obama, thanks but no thanks. The last person I need help from is some black leader of the federal government in a position to perhaps improve my quality of life.

The worst part is that I'll have to put up with this guy being a black president for at least three more years. I guess all I can do is try to hold out for the 2012 election. Maybe then we'll get a white president back in office. Maybe he'll have the common decency to let me suffer in peace.

Like Hell I'm Going To Let Some Black President Help Me Pay For Dialysis

I like onions too....sauted with butter..mmmmm. I like them on steak and hot dogs but I don't realy care for them on italian food, you know like spagetti and stuff. I like my italian food with just sauce and meat and any kind of noodle is fine with me. I especially like lasagna with alot of cheese. Especially ricotta cheese. I love ricotta chees in my lasagna.
