Great! Here comes a Tropical Cyclone!

In 24 hours I could be sitting in the middle of a cyclone! :|

Fuck I hope it doesn't swing upwards. If it stays on it's current course, it will probably hit about 100kms south of me (Townsville)....but who knows what it will do....could easily swing north or south. Luckily it's downgraded to a Category 2 now....but good chance it can intensify over the next 24 hours. A Category 2 can still be really dangerous though with winds of 125 - 175km per hour! :?

This afternoon will be spent cyclone proofing my yard. Already got my food, water, candles, torch, radio etc ready. I fucking hate cyclones....never been in one....prepared for way too many....and Townsville is long overdue for one.

How do you know if you hate cyclones if you have never been in one? Do cyclones become poisonous once they touch Australia's shore, or is that just the animals? Seriously though, don't die!

Back home we had a serious tail end of a hurricane once and that scary enough :o Usually we would just get some heavy wind and rain but this was HEAVY wind and rain...if that makes sense.

Internal room. If you have a basement, get into it.

My parents live on the coast in florida in a penthouse on top of a 12 floor building. One of their huge sliding-glass doors was bulging in from the pressure, and they were pushing back on it... but eventually they made a run for it because they thought it would break. It actually broke the lock on their sliding glass door, pushing the door so far in.

    Be careful!

haha I've had many cyclones hit just south of me and just north of me....I've experienced the rain and winds just from those cyclones....scary shit....I'd fucking hate to be in the middle of one.

Cyclone Larry hit Innisfail a bit north of me near Cairns on 20 March 2006 -- intensified to a category 5 and moved so quickly and just fucking smashed that area -- caused a billion dollars worth of damage. The bush was flattened in some parts. Seeing what that cyclone did to the area has scared the shit out of me! That was a category 5 though....and this is only a category 2....but the little bastards are just so unpredictable! :x

Yeah they say it's best to keep a window open to release any pressure like that....and we are advised to tape our windows so they don't smash in and shower glass everywhere.

And we don't have basements in Australia. They say the safest place is the toilet so you can hold onto pipes if your roof flies off and stairwells. If it intensifies too much, I think I'll go into work with my dogs where we can get under the stairs.

    Thanks! :)

haha Nahhh, that would be totally un-Aussie running away from a cyclone! ;) We'll be right. I'm not really that worried if it stays a category 2. If it was still a category 4 I would honestly be shitting my pants.

Yeah, I've heard opposite too. None of my houses have been airtight anyway because they've all had louvres....do you guys have louvres or is that an Aussie thing?

WTF?! Nope, definitely not that close to the ocean! That's fucking crazy! We may flood though. We had floods in Townsville last year around cyclone season and in some suburbs the whole bottom floor was full of water. I'm smart enough not to live in a low area.

BTW, I normally never use the term "score", so I just assumed you were telling me you had really awesome sex until I read further.. :? 8-)

    Stay safe Zig.

THe crazy seas have claimed the life of one lifesaver already in the National lifesaving championships. Two of my best mates are racing up there today, and they haven't called it off. So hopefully they stay safe too.

I hate so much when people say that. Cyclones aren't fun or anything to love. I've never met one person up my way who has been in a cyclone or near a cyclone who says "I love them". It's always the dicks that have no idea. I have a mate saying "bring it on"....he's from England....I hope his house gets smashed to teach him a lesson on how serious cyclones can be! (I don't really....but you know what I mean.)

I don't see how people losing their homes, possessions, cars, businesses and lives is "fun". I also sell real estate/businesses -- if Townsville got hit with a bad category 5, my whole livelihood is fucked!

They're predicting it to go up to a category 3 when it hits now. And the Navy tracking system is showing it hitting much closer to Townsville than the Bureau of Meterology tracking system. :?

Up to a category 3 already. It's directly east of me but moving south west thankfully. Going to hit land in about 8 or 9 hours which will be 2 or 3am here.
