This is really disappointing. Evryone that I know that hates PJ will shit all over this. What do you say back? This is a bad day for me as a PJ fan. There's (always) tomorrow though.

Sounds weird still. I'm not upset or depressed over it (that would be even weirder) but it just sounds odd.

So they're showing thanks for the only company who agreed to let them sell their album the way THEY wanted... how appaling of them. :o

I also think they planned on showing thanks to people who purchased Backspacer through the 10 Club by giving them some exclusive vault downloads but we know how that went. At least they follow through on the important things though right?

Maybe they can get Target to donate a better server to their ticketing website now. ;)
  • That's sad.

  • Whoa....a few thoughts:

    1. Who would have ever thought this possible back in 1998?
    2. I'm jealous of Target Management (or anyone else in the building for that matter)
    3. "A half full Target center"? Maybe they should have announced it. That would have filled it up.
    4. Not sure how I feel about this quite yet. Need some processing time.

ok so PJ plays a free show for target people, while their real fans can't even successfully buy the eighty five dollar tickets that they are offering us to see them...

    hmm. how things have changed..
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam
  • ComeToTXComeToTX Posts: 7,765
Like I said in another thread is anything about this band the same as it was 10 years ago?

Yeah I know, people change, kids, money. Whatever. These guys are different and I'm not sure they would have liked it if you told them a few years ago they would be playing for target execs in '10.

This is not their first corporate gig. I recall them doing something for Apple back with Riot Act or Binaural. Could be wrong, but I have some recollection of that.

Not to be a defender of all things PJ, but what is the difference between the Easy Street gig and the Target gig? They played for the people who sell their records. You know they did their homework and investigated Target's philanthropy. I am sure that has a lot to do with it.

Pearl Jam LLC. At some point, we have to accept they have lots of mouths to feed other than their own, or move on.

You don't see a difference in playing a show to support local, indie record stores and playing a show for target execs?

Good point about Easy Street, that's helps put things in to perspective for me. The real difference, however, is that Target is a giant corporation while Easy Street is a bunch of their friends that own an independant record shop in West Seattle. 99.99% of the people today at the Target center had nothing to do with PJ's deal with Target or even give 2 shits about them. Regardless, the point remains.

OH, and there we have it... the "they have families to feed" excuse that SOMEONE always has to bring up whenever they're coming up with excuses for PJ sacrificing their old-school business decisions. That's my favorite of the excuses!

I'll say again, Pearl Jam could never record another note or play another show and their families would never, ever be hungry. No one is gonna be singing "I'm going hungry" except Chris Cornell and Eddie (one verse & backing vox).

Almost as good as 2 years ago when people said the high ticket prices were because of the price of gas
Here we are with cheaper gas yet somehow the tickets went up. Who'd a thunk it.
