I just connected more with the book. It was great how Penn got the detail of the bus and what it must have been like for Chris up there. The narration that was wrote by Chris' real life sister was great. I didn't really care for the slabs scenes and the actor that played Rainey. It all seemed to light for me. Love Vince Vaughn but that he was playing himself more than he should have been.

ok now it does sound like I'm bashing the movie... I swear I liked it

Im still plodding through the book. Interestingly the Rainey charachter is not an actor. Several of the bit players were people they found on the road or part of crew including Rainey. Personally I found the narration distracting as I did the need to chapter the scenes. I kinda wanted them to just tell the story. I found that I loved parts of the movie more than others. The Holbrooke scenes were great. I really loved the Slab City and Oregon scenes. Found alot of the family stuff superfluous.

watched it again last night and absolutely, solid movie. however, chris mccandless just pisses me off. :p seriously. i *get it*....but i also, obviously, don't think it is *enough* to go off like that. all the rage and anger, i just don't see as enough of a motivator, or i see it as a spoiled chiuld really. so much i was thinking...so many would've LOVEd the opportunities/advantages he had, even with all the emotional baggage of his parents. and the whole *lie* bit in regars to his parents starting off together...so what? i definitely look at it all as one so young, and thinking in *absolutes*.... beyond all that, i was just so annoyed that he went to alaska in april?...why not wait until june? then you'd see that the small little river is actually an unpassible river in warmer months. have a map, more non-perishible food, etc, etc. i know, i know...he had a 'live off the land' mentality, but yea.....as much as he prepared, he obviously didn't prepare enough, for 'just in case.' it's all done, but really....while i know many may disagree, i see it all as such a tragedy, a waste.....b/c obviously he had MUCH to offer..so, so sad. anyhoo, upon 2nd viewing i simply couldn't help myself but get a wee bit angry with him. :p and no, i don't have children....but i am older, so i can truly empathize with ALL the characters. catherine keener's character really summed it up for me. so yes......a tragic waste, even if he dies content/happy with his choices.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

I just bought mine today but I didn't get the special features. Didn't even think about it. Just asked for it and he rung it up. Duh.

    Oh well...

    Maybe I'll go back later.

I see what you are saying. I think he went to Alaska in April so that the next 5 months would be May, June, July, August, September.

If he had waited until June the next 5 months would be July, August, September, October, November.

In other words, the later you wait to go, the less time there is until it starts to get cold again. Make sense?

Obviously as far as McCandless was concerned he wanted to live there in the wild year-round but it is/was a good idea to start off when it's warm to get a feel for everything. If you recall, in the movie, Vince Vaughn's character was adamant about Chris going in the Spring when the F.B.I. was taking him away.

  • I preordered my special edition a few weeks back and it finally came today! :) I've already seen it twice in theatres and a third time on a plane two weeks ago actually, but watching it tonight at home just felt so special for some reason...maybe because I can watch it whenever I want to now, but I was just sooooooo excited to see it again. And even though there wasn't much in the special features, it was worth it to me. I loooooved hearing from Sean and Emile, and Jon Krakauer especially.

Any Canadians know where I can find it??

Found mine at Future Shop for 25.99 but my friend was there two days ago and said that they were sold out of both versions. I'm sure another shipment will be in by now though.
E agora? Faz xixi na mão e deita fora!
