I'd recommend a hotel called La Quinta Inn, 32nd st between Broadway and 5th Ave (Korea Town). It's 2 blocks away from the garden and usually among the cheapest hotels around; always recommend it to my friends. Of course it isn't a luxury hotel, but decent enough. Gets booked well in advance, so I'd recommend making reservations and if you find something better, you can always cancel it.

i booked a room here for $179 & most reviews i found on tripadvisor.com were good - it is also cancellable which most other rates near this are not. there are other fees of course for parking, etc but this is the best i've found thus far. unless 10C comes up with something better... (i did have plans on my timeshare but its completely booked, and the new yorker was my 2nd choice - but this will work!)
