Has anyone framed the 4 Philly 2009 posters??

I'm looking to frame the 4 posters and not sure if it would look better in one big frame or in 4 seperate frames. Any pictures of how you framed yours would be great.

I thought about doing the same thing on the Cali (skateboard) trio from years back. Making it one big frame with all three together.

  • I've got all 4 in separate frames side by side. Just a word of warning, if you do separate frames it can be very difficult to get them lined up on the wall, especially if you're a perfectionist. There's no room for error and the prints have to be right up against each other for the image to work.

I haven't framed mine yet...but am planning on it very soon...just need to find a good place to hang 'em.

i alwaqs prefer 4 separate frames, even the 'neoncon' set from the 2004 VFC, just my personal preference. that said, even as an uber perfection it really is not that difficult to get them hanging/aligned perfectly. just don't hang by picture wire, use nails or screws in the wall, holding each frame up by their corners. and obviously, use a level to align. not difficult, just must measure, level. old carpenter's rule: measure twice, cut once. same deal for hanging art. :D

i haven't framed my 2 philly posters yet, and probably won't for a while. :(
ran out of space, and seems silly to frame just to put away somewhere. plus, trying to save more this year, so figured, why bother yet. first 2 show posters i haven't rushed out to frame. eh well, hopefully someday the basement will get finished, and then, more wallspace! 8-)

I was going to do this at first but decided against it for the reasons you listed. I ended up leaving 5 or 6 inches between each of them, and I think it looks great like that.

I still would have loved to have them side by side though. If it wasn't for the white border around the image it would have been cool to frame them as one large image.

If you have the money.. I would say get a custom professional frame job with all four side by side in one long frame with a nice matte separating each poster by an inch or two. That would probably look the nicest.

However, if you are looking to do this on the cheap.. grab 4 x $14.00 18 x 24 inch frames from WalMart and call it a day.

Yea, once i committed to the wire, there was no going back. To add to the problems the wires had different tensions, so i couldn't align the screws in the wall, i had to give it a shot and then adjust. the 3rd and 4th posters were very frustrating.

all 4 of mine are framed individually and lined up side by side. I put Mrs ElwayVedder in charge of hanging them as she has more patience than me. If I did it, it would look like my kid hung them

the matte looks pretty good. I never would have thought that a yellow/gold matte would look that good.

Mine are against a pretty dark red wall, they pop pretty well with no matte.

    damn, exactly!
personally, i never use wire. i always use the method i mention above, whether hanging 1 pic or 3 in a row, whatever. i do not like my pictures to even be out of whack/unlevel...is that a word? :P....and by utilizing the 2 nails/screws method, it guarantees the art will not shift, and makes it a helluva lot easier to get it perfectly level, aligned with other art....and keep it that way. i also think it offers more support, especially if you use screws/anchors as i usually do. but that's just me. glad you got it to work!

and to the poster above - nice!
    frames/mats look fab.

We framed each of the four individually. They all have a black metal frame, 2 inch black matting and then a thin chrome color inset matting...they look fantastic hanging up side by side...maybe a quarter inch between each frame....will post pic when I get home...if I remember! Having the entire set framed and hung has given me new appreciation for the prints...I liked them to start...but now they look fantastic! Our NEOCON set however we framed in one long frame with matting seperating each one...that looks great two...but since these are bigger we went for individual frames...

great information eveyone and i like the pics that have been posted already. (looking forward to more)

i wasn't sure about the prints when i bought them at the show but i like what some of you have done and now i think i love them.

i flew out to ny from az to see the shows and had to leave the 10/30 and 10/31 posters at my friends house. i didn't know that they ran together. i just got the 10/28 print yesterday and should be getting the 10/29 print from 10c today or tomorrow. can wait to put them all together in some frames.

    Sweet matte finishes man! :)

I still haven't got a chance to frame up the latest Ed/PJ '08 & '09 prints. I'm pretty much addicted to those Art Portfolio's. Plus, I don't have any empty wall space in the house to hang anything up. :(

I hear you on that. I've got room for about 3-4 more in the house, but the portfolio is a lifesaver, I've got a few in that already while I decide on what to frame.

To answer a different question, I just buy the cheap Trendsetter frames from Michael's and give them all a black paper "matte" background. I have way too many posters to have framed fancier than that.

Same here. With Michael's seemingly always having the Trendsetters on sale or providing coupons, I usually grab these for my posters. They're pretty simple but they get the job done. I like the fact that most of the posters that I got this past tour are standard size and could fit a 18x24 frame, not 19x26 or other odd sizes. Although, the poster that I had Maxx242 sign before LA2 just gets slightly pinched in a 18x24 so I'm trying something different. With the posters for the 09 shows I went to, I went with bigger frames and I'm going to experiment with matting them and including photos from the shows around the posters. We'll see how they work out.
