i would be willing to bet you anything that the vast majority of those unemployed, with mortgages to pay, credit card debt, and medical bills are shitting themselves wondering how they care going to pay for all of that, and not sitting on their asses waiting for their government checks... i am glad i am not as cynical as you all appear to be.

not cynical just realistic, I agree with you about the people that have mortgage's and credit card debt
and some people just don't want unemployment checks but then there are some people that will do anything not to work.

not to be a jerk on this but there a lot of people that collect unemployment or any other benefit they can get their hand's on just so they don't have to work and that really sucks for the people that want to work even to the point of taking a less paying job in a position they are over qualified for, but to take the unemployment benefit extension from us is just stupid, maybe this guy would like to give up his job and stand in line.

hey Godfather, do you have evidence that it is easy for the vets to find jobs? i read an article a few months ago on yahoo.com stating that vets are having just as much trouble finding work as those that have been laid off. nobody is hiring anybody, after being on here for 8 years i know that cosmo usually knows what he is talking about...so chill out..

i think cosmo was saying that "that is grattitude for ya" when these vets risk their lives overseas and are repaid by not getting hired by anyone back at home...

I never said anything about Vet's..my wife's is a vet, it looked like he was twisting my post around but
    yeah your right, I'm chillin.

I wasn't pointing out any group of people as lazy but if you think that they're not out there you not looking hard enough and as I said in my first post I think it would be stupid to take away and unemployment bennies
at this point, there are too many hard working people that have paid their due's in life then got the rug pulled out from underneath them and they need help.

Unemployment higher among young war veterans
Associated Press Writer - The Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- The Labor Department says the unemployment rate for young Iraq and Afghanistan veterans was 21.1 percent last year.

That's well above the 16.6 percent jobless rate for non-veterans of the same ages, 18 to 24.

Difficulty finding work can make the adjustment to life back home even more challenging for war veterans. Some have struggled with addictions and homelessness.

For veterans of all ages from the recent wars, the unemployment rate was 10.2 percent.

The national unemployment rate last year was 9.3 percent, the highest since 1983.

Oh well, Delay has always been an ass! Who cares what what he says.
He's a thief anyway and then he has the balls to talk about who is collecting money. He has no problem taking money that he isn't suppose to.

    Garbage in, garbage out.
    Save room for dessert!

I was out of work - permanent work - for two years. And yes, I was on unemployment. I can tell you from personal experience that you can live only the simplest of lives while on it. ie., no cable tv, no internet service, no cell phone service etc. I don't know how anybody with a mortgage and car payment, plus a family survives on it.

That said, Vets get first consideration for all Federal government positions and right now there are literally thousands of opportunities out there. Yes, you may have to move, but Federal positions offer decent pay for the most part and fantastic benefits - which is worth a lot if you have a family.

I know for a fact that Vets ARE getting first consideration for these positions because hiring managers have told me so. I'm highly qualified for what I do, and never got to the interview stage due to priorities for veterans. I'm NOT saying they don't deserve first consideration. I am saying that there are some damn good jobs out there just waiting for a vet to apply.

If Vets are having a hard time finding work, they aren't looking in the right places. Tell your veteran friends to go online to JobsUSA. Yes, it can take hours to fill out your first application, but if they really want to work, they'll do it.
