Pretty much. I feel that there isn't a great centrist option right now, and I have a bitch of a time with how to vote every election.
i would say the new wave crew of the liberals (trudeau, dion, and kennedy) would have been good centrist options ... but the old boys club has taken over again ... so, not sure who you should vote for ... i'm fortunate in that the conservative person in my riding usually finishes last so i can vote for whoever ...

I could live with Kennedy, Trudeau will have no luck out west, but Dion...oh come on all of Canada saw what a clown he was, he may be intelligent and all but he would still come off as a clown, and I say he may be, I never saw anything intelligent when he was the liberal leader, and my guess is they didn't either because he was the first liberal leader to not have a shot to gain power in at least 2 elections.

Thats the key keep spending at the same level, A big ticket item will be coming off the books by 2012, the Afghan war will be done. We have so much of what the world wants and needs that revenue will go up drastically.
if you're talking about oil - those guys in alberta will need another war to push oil back up to $90 a barrel ... alberta has been hit hard because oil has come back down ... relying on oil revenues is akin to relying on selling solar powered flashlights for sustainability ... beyond the fact it's role in climate change - it makes absolutely no sense to subsidize an industry like that ...
You're dreaming in technicolour if you think oil is going to stay below 100/barrel, it barely dropped below 70 in a recession and now the economies are recoverying it's going up, oil is around 80/barrel now. These economist you refer, you might not want to take there advice. The "those guys" in Alberta I suspect is one of the reasons they despice people from Toronto and Ontario.

dion had a communication problem mostly because english was his second language ... if you subscribe to all those attack ads the conservatives ran - then i supposed you could call him a clown cuz that's how they portrayed him ... but if you judge a person by his record ... it's exemplary ... his integrity never questioned ... too bad we can't say the same of our current pm ...

i might be wrong but i don't see them lowering the cost of extraction without more tax breaks from the conservatives ... the more info about how destructive this process is, the more they will have to pay to prevent it ... ultimately, i do think they will need another war for the price to pop to the rates they want over there ...

Time will tell, but I doubt investors like that would drop money into if it wouldn't make money. I do know this if you enjoy your health care you better hope that mining and oil production is the answer, because I don't know if you noticed but the manufacturing jobs in Ontario that used to drive this economy is not doing very well.

Sure Toronto did, take away the CUPE strike and then tell me how well Toronto did. I wouldn't give a Mayor to much credit since he only gets a vote if the council is tied. You also have other factors as well, you have to pay two registration fees for your cars, when buying a house two land transfer taxes and who knows what else, thats what leftest mayors do, continually tax. I've been to Toronto, it's a rather polluted city, maybe you should worry about cleaning up your own city and stop worrying about what Alberta does. I somehoe suspect they have far cleaner air than Toronto. Of course thats probably asking to much from someone from Toronto, after all isn't Toronto the center of universe

Normally I don't point this out, as I am not exactly "pro-oil". However, when Toronto comes up I can't resist. :P
I just don't think some people realize how important oil and mining is going to be to our economy, these are jobs that can't be outsourced to China. I agree Ontario, where I live many of the Tool and Die shops are starting to do work for the oil and mining companies instead of just automotive. I'm not pro oil or anti oil, but there are a lot of jobs coming from this sector, and I'm not about telling Alberta or any other province how to run their business.
Also like I said we need those jobs if we want to maintain programs like healthcare. People talk about Harris/Flarety, they inherted a 14 billionm dollar deficit from Rae/NDP, eventially ran some surplus's and left a 5 billion deficit when McSpendy got elected, now his government is running a 25 billion dollar deficit. McSpendy makes Rae look like the wizard of wallstreet.
I've never been to Alberta, hope to within the next year or so, but I've been told it' is very nice. I think people in Toronto don't like Harper because he's from the West and they are used to having a say in government and government giving them all kinds of money and now the power has shifted west, I'm lovin it myself.
They even voted for Dion, he could have easily replaced Bozo The Clown.

haha ... the old toronto hate on ... i get it ... i travel across this country a lot and i'll take it just like i do everywhere else ... i love going to places like edmonton and listent to a guy tell me how shitty toronto is only to find out he's never been ...
anyhoo - toronto ranks 5th in the world for the best places to live according to the economist but why let that get in the way of a good ignorant hate ...
if you look at our property tax rates - they are one of the lowest in the area ... but again - why let facts get in the way ... toronto is nowhere close to being perfect by any stretch but at least criticize things that are real

For sure ... We cannot debate big oil because neither of us really roots for them. And that's not propaganda per se, its just a statement regarding financial benefits for Ontario, which is a valid point. Alberta is not the sole problem with regards to the tar sands.

good grief ... do you use facts or do you just make stuff up? ... harris inherited a $2 billion defecit ... a defecit created by a huge recession post gulf war 1 ... harris took over when the economy was in boom ... it was STILL in boom when eves left mcguinty the $6 billion hole 6 years ago ...
no wonder people vote the way they do ... no one actually knows the facts ... the harris gov't basically raped ontario ... they funded their tax cuts by selling crown goods at bargain rates to their friends and downloaded provincial responsibilities to the municipalities ... stuff that mcguinty now has to take back ...

if i put a barrel of toxic waste in your house and paid you $1,000 a year to watch it ... i could write a brochure that says:
* increased revenues for homeowner
* created spin off job
* additional tax revenue for gov't
* etc ...
at the end of the day - we subsidize big oil heavily ... the fat cats that run these joints are making huge profits ... meanwhile - we the taxpayers, have to clean up their mess and deal with their impacts ... if all energy sources were on the same level playing field ... we'd never use oil ... but these guys control gov't policy ...

I may not been totally accurate on Rae deficit figure's but they were double digit for at least three years, as for proroguing it basically states he was the king of it, and now's the most vocal against. Also before you go on about Harper proroguing to avoid the afghan detainees problem, Uncle Jean prorogued to avoid the Somalia problem. Sorry they all do it, thats life, I don't care who people vote for, but if you think one party is that much better than another well fine for you, personally none work for the people, the conservatives and liberals both cater to big business, you might as well deal with it, as for the NDP who really cares, they'll never win in Ontario again and they'll never win federally. I will stand by my statement, people in TO don't like Harper because they are no longer the centre of the universe in the federal governments eyes. People dislike TO for good reasons.
If you want to discuss the Afghan detainees thats fine to. Just a few question, did our soldiers torture anyone? Was it the Afghans who tortured? If so, were these Taliban? Al Quaida? Warriers? How much do you know about the hell and cruelty that regular afghan citizens were under when the Taliban were in control? I'm not looking for an argument, I'm just asking, all I know is what I've read.

honestly - i've said numerous times that i've never voted for the liberals ... so, if your only defense of harper is to post articles about the liberals - well, all you are doing is approving current wrongs with previous ones ... plus, posting from a right-wing rag like the Sun (an op-ed no doubt) doesn't support your position either ...
people hate Harper because TO is no longer the centre of the universe? ... oh dear - can we get any more stereotypical? ... no PM has come from Ontario let alone Toronto since forever ... Harper got no seats in the cities of Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto (the 3 largest in Canada) ... there is a reason for that ...
what good reasons are there to hate Toronto?
what kind of questions are they associated with torture ... the torture case pretty much comes down to this ... we knowingly sent detainees (some innocent some not) to Afghans who would then torture them ... our gov't knew about this ... you either agree with torture or you don't ...

Calgary and Edmonton are both larger than Vancouver. All but 1 MP is conservative
all of alberta voted conservative ... that's part of my point ... it's why his policies favour that province ... also, the province he's from ... it is also why funding tends to go more towards conservative ridings ...
West and North Vancouver are not part of the city of Vancouver - they are their own cities ..
seriously, have I posted Bob Rae is the greatest somewhere? ... or the Liberals are the best? ... what's with the reference to things I have no interest in defending? ...

I'm just pointing out all three parties are flawed, I just look at who is in the best position to lead this country and right now in my opinion it's Harper, not the liberals with Iggy and Rae and the NDP will not win, and the greens are insignificant. How many years have the policies favoured Quebec with all the french prime ministers. The conservatives stepped in and helped the auto sector here in Ontario, so not everything is tilted toward Alberta. The city of Windsor got largest per capita amount of stimulus money, no conservative mps in Windsor.

my point with the PMs is that you are ragging on toronto when toronto doesn't care about who's in power ... you so deftly indicated that all we care about is that we aren't the centre of the universe ... i'm still waiting to see what you hate about toronto ...
ultimately, it depends on what your motivations are ... i want honest gov't that works for the majority of canadians - not big corporations and alberta ...
People out here in the West begrudge Toronto for voting Liberal every single election (even right after the Sponsorship scandal! ... That's still a bit of a head scratcher for me). And vice versa ... Some in Toronto think everyone out here is ignorant, when really, both regions of the country vote in terms of how they perceive the parties will look out for their interests. Human nature, not ignorance per se.

my ignorant comment was attributed to most people who hate the city ... no one ever criticizes for anything legitimate ... it's always some stereotypical comment about the centre of the universe and stuff like that ...
in any case - Ontario has at least had 3 different parties run over the past couple of decades ... and in Toronto, people vote all kinds of ways - it's all one colour in Alberta, for a long time ...
either way - Toronto is not a right-wing/conservative town ... but if the Conservative party was like the old Progressive Conservative party - it would get votes from Toronto ... but the Reform/Mike Harris types that run the party does not like Toronto ...

what I don't like about TO, already said it you think your the center of the universe, thats just my opinion, and the opinion of many others. You personally may not, but I know many people from TO and they think that. Rae who was an NDP now a Liberal :? who's former colleague don't care for the guy-have some integrity. You'll never change my opinion.

as a person who has lived in Toronto all his life i don't know many people who think we are the center of the universe just of Canada
also, i have seen you say this twice so far about Iggy not living in Canada and i ask what does that matter. he had a great job in the US teaching at a well known school. do you not admit that there are people who have lived in Canada their whole life but don't know anything about this country. Iggy is a smart guy and i think would be a good leader.

The air here is pretty good, in southern ontario we hardly had any poor air quality days last summer, so things aren't so bad.

haha ... the old toronto hate on ... i get it ... i travel across this country a lot and i'll take it just like i do everywhere else ... i love going to places like edmonton and listent to a guy tell me how shitty toronto is only to find out he's never been ...
anyhoo - toronto ranks 5th in the world for the best places to live according to the economist but why let that get in the way of a good ignorant hate ...
if you look at our property tax rates - they are one of the lowest in the area ... but again - why let facts get in the way ... toronto is nowhere close to being perfect by any stretch but at least criticize things that are real
honestly!?? ... you didn't just post a link of propaganda from the oil companies did you? ... good grief ... i'm not really interested in posting a dozen links indicating how awful the tarsands are ...
* increased revenues for homeowner
* created spin off job
* additional tax revenue for gov't
* etc ...
at the end of the day - we subsidize big oil heavily ... the fat cats that run these joints are making huge profits ... meanwhile - we the taxpayers, have to clean up their mess and deal with their impacts ... if all energy sources were on the same level playing field ... we'd never use oil ... but these guys control gov't policy ...
Exactly, and these fat cats are a Canada-wide problem.
This covers a lot for you.

All but 1 MP is conservative
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_th ... population
Vancouver has two conservative members, John Weston, West Vancouver, Andrew Saxton, North Vancouver
See your the one that just makes up stuff up, Oh by the way I wlaways spell Canada with a "C".
Bob Rae's own colleagues have turned on him, that says a lot about the man.
"Life Is What Happens To You When Your Busy Making Other Plans" John Lennon
i stand corrected - i assumed the cities rank would be the same as the CMA rank ... http://www40.statcan.gc.ca/l01/cst01/demo05a-eng.htm
all of alberta voted conservative ... that's part of my point ... it's why his policies favour that province ... also, the province he's from ... it is also why funding tends to go more towards conservative ridings ...
"Life Is What Happens To You When Your Busy Making Other Plans" John Lennon
http://www.caw.ca/en/8667.htm ... they are not supporting the conservatives ...
my point with the PMs is that you are ragging on toronto when toronto doesn't care about who's in power ... you so deftly indicated that all we care about is that we aren't the centre of the universe ... i'm still waiting to see what you hate about toronto ...
ultimately, it depends on what your motivations are ... i want honest gov't that works for the majority of canadians - not big corporations and alberta ...
my ignorant comment was attributed to most people who hate the city ... no one ever criticizes for anything legitimate ... it's always some stereotypical comment about the centre of the universe and stuff like that ...
in any case - Ontario has at least had 3 different parties run over the past couple of decades ... and in Toronto, people vote all kinds of ways - it's all one colour in Alberta, for a long time ...
either way - Toronto is not a right-wing/conservative town ... but if the Conservative party was like the old Progressive Conservative party - it would get votes from Toronto ... but the Reform/Mike Harris types that run the party does not like Toronto ...
what I don't like about TO, already said it you think your the center of the universe, thats just my opinion, and the opinion of many others. You personally may not, but I know many people from TO and they think that. Just an opinion...but lets be real, I can see voting some liberals, because Kennedy seems like an OK guy, but Iggy-who spent 30 years out of the country :? . Rae who was an NDP now a Liberal :? who's former colleague don't care for the guy-have some integrity. You'll never change my opinion.
"Life Is What Happens To You When Your Busy Making Other Plans" John Lennon
as a person who has lived in Toronto all his life i don't know many people who think we are the center of the universe just of Canada
also, i have seen you say this twice so far about Iggy not living in Canada and i ask what does that matter. he had a great job in the US teaching at a well known school. do you not admit that there are people who have lived in Canada their whole life but don't know anything about this country. Iggy is a smart guy and i think would be a good leader.
