Almost every band at Bonnaroo has new material, new album
Metallica
My Morning Jacket
Raconteurs
Sigur Ros
Death Cab
Pearl Jam???????
why not???
A few months back no one knew the Raconteurs or NIN would have such spontaneous releases. Why couldn't Pearl Jam???

to not question your government is unpatriotic."

My points:
a. Nobody know for sure what they have been doing in their free time. They could easily have gone into a studio and threw down on some songs.
b. Ed said that writing the music for Into The Wild had him excited about writing more.
c. They have the extra songs from the "Avocado sessions". I'm sure they could get these properly produced QUICKLY depending on how formed the songs were. If an album was released without prior knowledge, the message board's intangible head would explode! Have you ever seen Scanners?
I hope it is the case!
you named 5 bands...there will be like 100 at bonnaroo, many of which will not be supporting albums. nice thought though!
Um, they are all supporting albums. The idea of playing live for most bands (not the bands that sell 500K every drop) is to get people to hear them and hope they buy the album. It's called promoting the music. The headliners at these festivals clear a profit--70% are playing for exposure.
Wasn't there also some quotes floating around from Tim(?) or members of the band saying how they were inrigued by the way Radiohead released In Rainbows, and could see themselves doing something similar?
I wouldn't be shocked if they released some Avocado B-sides and maybe a couple new tunes under a "pay what you want" format.
All I'm saying is that it is not entirely inconceivable.
It's totally conceivable. Look, there is going to be a tour of some sort. They are not going to pull the crew together for just one show. All the equipment and the entire organization is going to get together for one show? No way.
Definitely, they have unreleased material left from the Avocado sessions, we know that. So maybe they pull a Sufjan Stevens and release another album or EP from the Avocado sessions. Shouldnt be much of hassle for them either, if they got the songs, tzey only need to make them available somehow, which isnt hard to do nowadays.
There have been many points already brought out supporting this.
1. Eddie saying lyrics were flowing after writing into the wild tunes.
2. the band has had lots of off time it seems
3. It would be good for the band and J records to get another album out there sooner than later, not that this has concerned the band before.
4. No "update your memberships" warning
5.
What else?
30 years young next year and this would make that full world tour that tiny little bit more likely, best 30th birthday present I could wish for. a handful of PJ dates to travel around to
Didn't the photographer, Danny Clinch, interviewed on twofeetthick refer to some new music that he couldn't talk about?
'98 - 9/1 9/4 9/18
'00 - 8/6 8/7 8/15 8/17 9/5
'03 - 4/9 4/15 4/19 7/11 7/12
'04 - 10/6 10/8
'05 - 9/11 9/12 9/13 9/15
'06 - 5/27 5/28 7/7 7/13 7/18 7/22 7/23
5. Danny Clinch's little hint.....
Or how about
6. The band has obviously been jamming together. What they released was a little questionable..."Rock around ......
A new album from the guys would make me SOOOOOOO happy
I just don't want Metallica to bring out another pile of shite like STANGER, I might just cry if they do...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
New tunes, b-sides, pay what you want.
