Shouldn't it be called the Health INSURANCE Summit?

Seriously though, everyone knows this is a waste of time and just for show.

We'd get more dollar value out of these politicians if we paid them the same salary we are now but just had them picking up litter on the side of the road.

it may be showing how ineffectual our government is but that is needed, people need to see how petty bickering, tantrums and speaking in circles drags progress down.

i said before they need to have some sort of public debate like this and i actually think obama is doing a good job in his responses, calling them on some bs like how they raise premiums and drop people and clarifying like when they say medicare will be cut only medicare advantage which allows people to receive medicare coverage through private insurance:
For people who choose to enroll in a Medicare private health plan, Medicare pays the private health plan a set amount every month for each member. Members may have to pay a monthly premium in addition to the Medicare Part B premium and generally pay a fixed amount (a copayment of $20, for example) every time they see a doctor. The copayment can be higher to see a specialist.

forgot who she was but 1 woman said something about some count domestic abuse as a pre-existing condition, is that true??

obama just made good points that if you think covering the tens of millions of uninsured people is important to cover that many people it's going to cost money so either you feel it's important enough or you don't, let's not pretend we are but not willing to do anything about it

I thought today was great. While there was a whole lot of posturing and not a whole lot of policy negotiations, I think it was productive and hope it will move forward. I do like that it sounds like Obama is pressing forward with Health Care Reform.

You know, with all the things going on in my life right now......I can't afford to insure the uninsured. If I was more financially stable at this time, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Just curious Pepe.....have you heard any good points that WEREN'T made by Obama? :D

Well, if they want to end the two wars and stop bombing Pakistan, and stop spending money on military defense, and then give everybody health care and keep my taxes the same then maybe I might be ok with it. But no matter what, I am NOT for higher taxes. I am for less tax. Put more money in our pockets which in return will help the economy. But i'd like to see a country with socialized health care where their people do not pay a 40% tax or higher, even if they are not in a war.

Yes....i'm implying that you only listen when Obama speaks. I didn't get to watch it because I was working...but clearly the republicans must have had some good things to say besides "BS".

As far as Obama speaking too much....I can see that as a possibility. Word is that he took down all the historic pictures and paintings in the left wing of the White House and replaced them with pictures of himself.....very arrogant person.

I ran the numbers and a lay-off doesn't look as bad as you want it to be. I'd get a sweet severence package that would include 6 months of full salary and continued Health Care Insurance. I've been socking away savings for a while and would be able to pay-off the balance of my mortgage and would own my house, outright, and would still have 2/3s of the savings in tact. My pension would be available to me, but I would be able to steer clear of it from my savings.
And here's the kicker... I would qualify for unemployment benefits. So, i would be able to sit on the beach and surf all Summer and you would be paying my bills.

nothing new said on either part, but it gave the president a chance to publicly call out lies on the right side of the table. This needs to get done, recesion or not, it's eating away at all of our wallets and will only get worse year by year. The govt. has been taking our money for the middle east wars for 8 years so i'm alright spending some tax dollars to insure some people and drive down the cost of my own plan. we can afford this as a country.

That's what the taxes we pay are for. Hopefully we don't have to use them like others, but things happen. I'm getting laid off as well. I'll have all summer off too with a nice severance. Plus since I'm being outsourced to another country I'll get TAA benefits and training.

I watched about 90% of this yesterday. One big thing I noticed is that Republicans and Democrats have a lot of the same ideas. The problem they have is in the approach and how to fix it. Of course they both have different #'s on how much all of this costs and that is the biggest issue I think.

I like the idea of starting over personally. Start with issue #1 and fix it. Proceed to the next and so on then put it together as 1 bill with simple language that everyone can understand.

How much do you think those Aides sitting behind each representative makes a year?

Also, can someone explain to me Pelosi's #'s on the 400K jobs that this will immediately create and the 4million total?

You have to try to get jobs, or you don't get your employment check.

Severance packages should have nothing to do with unemployment at all. So if you have some money in the bank you shouldn't get unemployment? Severance is your reward for working hard for your company. So should only poor people who lose their jobs get unemployment then?

That's like complaining about people taking social security checks when they retire... we (who work) all pay taxes for everything from medicare, education, and unemployment). If I get laid off and take unemployment money for 6 months while lounging around, it's a fraction of a percentage of what I paid into the system for working the last 15+ years.

if that's what he's talking about him and his 'sources' are still full of shit. from your article:
'The Obamas are sending ripples through the art world as they put the call out to museums, galleries and private collectors that they’d like to borrow modern art by African-American, Asian, Hispanic and female artists for the White House. In a sharp departure from the 19th-century still lifes, pastorals and portraits that dominate the White House’s public rooms, they are choosing bold, abstract art works......

Last week the first family installed seven works on loan from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington in the White House’s private residence, including “Sky Light” and “Watusi (Hard Edge),” a pair of blue and yellow abstracts by lesser-known African-American abstract artist Alma Thomas, acclaimed for her post-war paintings of geometric shapes in cheery colors.

The National Gallery of Art has loaned the family at least five works this year, including “Numerals, 0 through 9,” a lead relief sculpture by Jasper Johns, “Berkeley No. 52,” a splashy large-scale painting by Richard Diebenkorn, and a blood-red Edward Ruscha canvas featuring the words, “I think maybe I’ll…,” fitting for a president known for lengthy bouts of contemplation. The Jasper Johns sculpture was installed in the residence on Inauguration Day, along with modern works by Robert Rauschenberg and Louise Nevelson, also on loan from the National Gallery.'

where does it say he replaced them with nothing but pics of himself????
    don't compete; coexist

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama

when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'

So you can drain more tax dollars from the hard-working Americans , by collecting unemployment and surfing all summer instead of looking for a job. . . you seem so proud of yourself! It is the best time ever to be on unemployment because they keep sucking us working Americans dry by extending unemployment . Thanks buddy! Personally I could not live with that on my conscious.

Yeah... the only reason I probably wouldn't look for a job would be to just piss off you Tea Partiers so you can make more of those vastly entertaining signs.

Oh and... thank you in advance for paying my electric bills so i can run the air conditioning all day to keep my cats all comfy while I'm out at Huntington Beach, catching some tasty barrels.

I don't care if you collect unemployment. You paid in to it so go ahead and use it. But with all these lay offs going on it still PROVES the point that the Stimulus package was a waist and didn't do shit for employment in this country, niether will the jobs bill. But while you're out there catching them waves on unemployment you just keep on supporting all this money spending for jobs.....makes a real lot of fucking sense. I'm sure your kids will really appreciate it.

I just wonder why the wonderful free market has not righted this ship and started handing out jobs like candy...you know, since the free market is the only way to go and the gov't, like, sucks and all...
