  • So I suppose we're all getting older but your getting younger?
  • canada tour 05 says you're a putz.

08 tour was also very good.

09 had plenty of incredible moments.

    06 was a little bland.

Yeah very charming indeed. If you don't like what you're hearing maybe it's time to stop listening. Listen to Melbourne, Adelaide, London, LA, Chicago, Salt Lake, Berlin etc...... That's not the sound of a band who have lost anything! PJ still rule :D

There's no way. Get different boots. The energy has been upped for the last few tours. I took a casual friend to '09 Chicago show and he thought it was the most intense show he'd been to. This coming from a guy who was at Soldier Field '95.

Quality wise the boots aren't has good, but the band is as hot as ever. I think '06 was the best tour yet. I wish it had the boot sound quality of '03, but its not a perfect world.

I think Ed the night in night out touring wears on Ed more than it did just a few years ago, but the band is playing BETTER than ever. Whether this is your flavor of PJ or not, you can't deny that they are a well oiled machine 99% of the time.

Threads like this crack me up...

We all realize this isnt 1992-1994.....

But they are still, EASILY, the best live band walking the planet......

Nobody comes close to doing what Pearl Jam does, for 2.5-3 hours a night.....

I went to three shows on the last tour (Seattle shows, Portland). I came away from all three of those shows thinking the same thing...

THIS BAND SOUNDS BETTER THAN EVER!!!

And I've been to 35 shows from 1994 to 2009, some in Europe, the 10th anniversary, a bunch in 1998. I think I can speak to this subject pretty well. One musical thing the Grateful Dead was known for was in spite of all the jamming, they'd have a couple points in every show where the whole band would hit one big note together to bring it all back. Pearl Jam has taken that and mastered it, only they do it many times per song. I've never heard such controlled thunder.

Losing it? Hardly. Wouldn't every band like to sound as "crappy" as Pearl Jam?

I agree but ya gotta remember, Led Zeppelin circa '79 didn't exactly sound as good live as Led Zepplein circa '72 either. There may have been a bit of a drop in PJ's performance quality but you can't tell when you're at a show (well the weak-ass Even Flow solos of the past 4 years might tip ya off). The only people who can notice any drop in performance quality are the people who are obsessed with bootlegs.

No way man. He used to shred the Even Flow solo. Now, he holds one note forever and messes around with distortion. It's more of a cigarette break for Ed at this point than a guitar solo.

I do agree on the Even Flow thing. Pick up any single boot from 2000 or 2003 and then any one from recent years and you can tell a huge difference. I don't think that means he's "lost it". I think it is a creative choice on Mike's part. But I like the older solos on Even Flow.

But, they are still the best live band around. I think they are way tighter and certainly more skilled now. They used a ton of overdrive/distortion back in the early years and that covers up lots of mistakes. And they can get just as intense now without all the distortion and effects they used to use.

He holds the note for a matter of seconds, and then he shreds and gets feedback. To me, he goes Hendrix on the Even Flow solos.
