Does anyone else hate Sublime?

All my friends love them but i think so many of their songs sound the same and the lyrics are dumb
anyone agree/disagree?

    Don't like them either. More because the guy OD'd and left behind a family. The irony that their popular songs glorify drug use isn't lost on me, it's just that the last chapter never gets acknowledged.

    Yeah its annoying how so many of the songs are abt smoking
    also the part abt the singer leaving his fam isnt why i dont like sublime because i love nirvana.

    as with the "does anyone else hate nofx?" thread, i gotta disagree. Sublime's music is fucking terrific. great mix of rap and reggae, catchy hooks, smart lyrics (especially for being as fucked up as they seemed to be most of the time). Easy to play on the uke. of course they are over-played - all we ever got was a sample size before bradley checked out. If you hate Sublime, or any other music for that matter, please just don't listen to them. it is your right as a human being. don't spout about it. don't be a hater. haters suck. peace.

    You're a high school student, correct? I remember when I was high school you weren't cool unless you liked Sublime. Not really, but it just seemed like everybody walked around saying..."Yeah man, Sublime is so dope!"...

    Then there I was, walking around saying "You guys don't know shit! Fuck all your over played bullshit and listen to some Pearl Jam."

    I go to the High School that the members went to. No one can shut up about them. Everyone loves the song "Date Rape" talking about how great it is, but its just immature, relying on unimaginative writing and some cheap butt jokes. Kids these days...

    Just stream some reggae stations, you'll find the good stuff. I'm not a huge reggae listener myself, but there is a community radio station here in SLC (http://www.krcl.org) that has a show called "Smile Jamaica" on Saturday mornings and they play some killer reggae on there.

    they didn't go for roots reggae because they were pasty white punk surfers from socal (as opposed to native jamaicans) and didn't want to be pretentious (see UB40). they wanted to make a new sound that was a hodgepodge of everything they liked and make that sound their own. their lyrics are not dumb, rather, quite the opposite. I like Sublime. lotsa people do. it was a drag bradley split the scene because i felt they could have done a lot more. you don't get it? sorry. once again, you don't have to listen to their music.

    Love em or hate em, they left an indelible mark on the musical landscape of the 90's. I'm not crazy about them, but I appreciate what they did. What bothers me most about Brad was that he felt he needed to do the drugs to be creative. Some of my best friends have dealt with serious drug problems and Brad's mentality, in large part due to the drugs themselves, is disgusting. I hear that being thrown around a lot in music and it breaks my heart. They need the drugs because they feel useless musically without them.

    I almost went to the highschool that mike mccready went to - we moved to a different district tho before i started highschool and pj is popular there but not popular at my highschool interestingly enough.
    I would probably hate the school u go to lol that sounds annoying, but itd probably get annoying to be a kid at roosevelt if u didnt li ke pj lol.

    bradley was an addict. he didn't feel like he needed drugs to be more creative, he felt that he needed drugs period. music or no music, poor cat was a deseased addict. God rest his soul. wish he were around for the people that loved him.

    musicians do drugs for the same reason everyone else does. "It makes me more more creative" is just another bullshit excuse.

    Yes, I mean absolutely no disrespect to Brad or any of his fans. It just breaks my heart how the mentality of these rock stars get in the way of their true genius. I was just making the point because often times these things get glorified in rock and roll. Did Jimi play at that level because of the acid he took in large quantities? Did John Fruscante play so amazingly on Mother's Milk because he was on heroin? Did the Ramones rock so hard because they did so much coke? No, it was because they were amazing musicians. Often times it seems they don't understand this for themselves and it breaks my heart.

    about a year after he died, brad's wife was on kroq and she said that brad tried heroin to see what it was like...well as most people do, he liked it and got hooked...i'm sure he thought it would help his music and maybe it did to a point but heroin is not something you can just pick up and stop when you like


    and i'm a fan...haven't listened to them in years but if i ever do, i can turn on kroq...i think it's in their charter to play at least one sublime song per hour :D

    Sublime was around at the right time...they were sort of a precursor to the jam band culture, IMHO.
