I can't seem to get enough from these guys lately...
they do remind me of Pink Floyd, but they have their own cool thing going on

I have been listening to their Stupid Dream album a LOT.

Any fans out there?

here is a link to listen their song Even Less

    Cool song too.

I am more of a drama girl (at least in songs haha) - well it is not entirely true, but i tend to prefer sadder or more dramatic songs

  • BIG fan of these guys - Steven Wilson is a bit of an underground legend here, if you check out his other work you'll find everything from chill out/trance right thru to near full on metal. In Absentia is one of THE great Rock/Prog albums.
  • Just don't take Fear Of A Blank Planet lyrics too seriously - "My friend says he wants to die/he's in a band/they sound like Pearl Jam/ their clothes are all black/the music is crap..............
Observational or not, at least Mr Wilson's heard of the greatest rock'n roll band on the planet!! :?

  • I am obsessed with this band and it's been a pleasure to work my way through their extensive back catalogue after discovering them 3 years ago. "Dark Matter" has been my favorite song for the past 2 years, and "Anesthetize" is the best 18 minute song I've ever heard. It kills when played live.

The newest album "The Incident" is a nice microcosm of their past stuff, including mellow Floyd-esque stuff and some fairly aggressive stuff at times.
It is time to admit that we used to rock like hurricanes. It is time to run for the hills and go round and round. It is time for us to shout at the devil. We've got the right to choose it, there ain't no way we'll lose it, and we're not gonna take it anymore.

One of my favorites. I've seen them 4 times, they are incredible live. Anyone going to see them at Radio City Music Hall in September??? I can't wait. It's just going to be them playing for a long ass time and they might be recording it for a DVD/CD. Coma Divine is an amazing live album. I listen to these guys basically every day. I got a chance to get their autographs before the Boston show this past September. It was really cool to see them before the show and then see them up on stage rockin out. If you get a chance, go see them live.

dam fucking right, they are so good.

Sound of Muzak is damn catchy haha. Saw them last year performing The Incident.

Check of Wilson's other project called Blackfield, they are great too.

I've checked these guys out, but found I like reading about their music more than listening to it.

What's everybody recommend to start with? Maybe I just got the wrong stuff. Give me the rock!! What I heard before all sounded generic and crappy. "Deadwing" or whatever the song may have ruined me on them.

  • DewieCox, their best album is probably In Absentia. Deadwing has some high points but is a bit spotty. Fear of a Blank Planet has some of the most metal-sounding stuff on it, but it's quite varied in tone from song to song (or even within a song!). If you're into the dreamy Floyd-like stuff then try Signify.

Here! Here! I'm another huge Fan :D like Brisk "Sound of Muzak" was it for me, In Absentia and Stupid Dream are my favorite albums. I've seen them live 2x now and I'd go again and again to see them when they are in town (or elsewhere), honest. LIVE they are great - in an appropriate venue with great sound you get lost in their music ;) AND Steven Wilsons solo stuff ("Insurgentes") is awesome!!!

    Read this:
    PT at Royal Albert Hall
Porcupine Tree will play 2 special shows to close the Incident tour cycle, one in the UK and one in the US. The UK show is now confirmed to take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 14th October 2010. These shows will be evening-with concerts with PT playing an extended set - although we can't tell you exactly what the evening will hold at this moment, the band are planning some very special things that will make these 2 shows unique experiences for everyone.

Tickets for the Royal Albert Hall show will be on sale from 29th December. More new soon on confirmation of date and location of the US show.

WOW! Royal Albert Hall in London?!? This must be fantastic!! Imagine the sound... 8-)
