I recently bought Electric Ladyland on vinyl and it is THE best Hendrix album out there. The man was a genious. It's hard to call him the best because he died so young but what he accomplished in his short time will forever be challenged by guitarists. I think there are only a few guys that are in his league:

    Eric Clapton
    Jimmy Page
    Stevie Ray Vaughn

To name a few. All hail Jimi Hendrix. There will never be anyone quite like him again.

    Don't forget Skydog, Duane Allman.

Yes! I was waiting for someone to mention him. Read Duane's biography "Skydog". What a life, cut short at 24. Master of the slide.

When I heard Live At Filmore East, I was blown away by it. I have a few books to read first: currently reading the John Lennon bio, then The Proud Highway (Hunter Thompson), then People's History..., but I will definitely read "Skydog". I got that for my cousin for Christmas.

  • I just picked up Live at Berkeley 1970. Solid show. Not like Atlanta or Monterrey Pop, but fantastic nonetheless. There was nothing that this guy ever produced that was sub-par.

If you haven't, check out Blue Wild Angel: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970. Crazy versions of Machine Gun and Red House.

I really think Mike should cover a little bit of Machine Gun or Hear My Train A Comin'. He would tear the roof of arena's and wherever they play.

Hmm, and what about outdoor venues? Seriously though, great idea; I love Machine Gun and I'm sure Mike would do Jimi justice on it.

Haha I referenced outdoor venus as "and wherever they play" but he would tear down the walls of outdoor arenas.

1983 / Moon turn the tides combo is fucking amazing.

Anyone buying the re-releases on March 9? The first 3 albums and First Rays of the New Rising Sun are being re-issued as a CD/DVD set and 180gram vinyl. Valleys of Neptune will be released for the first time ever in the same formats. Thinking I will pick these up.

I will be doing that also. I'll be in LA that week for spring break so I'm wondering if I should buy them there or after when I return home? They'll be awesome either way.

  • I just listened to a nice mix of Jimi's stuff while hitting golf balls at the range. Great for staying in the zone and keeping the blood flowing, especially in 40 degree weather!
