Petition for "Free Kittens" (a sequel to Lost Dogs)

Chances are an average of 40 songs are written for every record. Almost half of those reach the finish line. Some are held over for the next album. But a lot of them fall by the wayside due to a constant influx of new material brought into the fold. The traditional method of adding an unreleased b-side to a single is fast becoming obsolete in the ever-changing landscape of the music industry. This leaves pearl jam with the potential to take adavantage of the internet in a more innovative fashion than they have before.
Now, what I'm about to state takes a cue from the welcome letter Eddie wrote to coincide with the launch of pearljam.com. This is, what I think, the best way to unload the surplus of songs they've accumulated over the years. And here's how it would work. All Ten Club members would be offered a special password, like a key, to gain acces to a restricted part of the website. This webpage would be a 360-degree virtual tour of the vault; similar to the one pictured on the inside cover of Lost Dogs. By clicking on various labelled tape reels stacked on the shelves, we would have the ability to download its contents: Consisting of original solo demos, interesting alternate takes, and for the main entree- a nice helping of unreleased b-sides! The best part is it's all free of charge!! Think of it as a grand gesture to thank fans for 20 years of devotion. Not that we are entitled to anything this "big, bold, and free" (remember that one) and have no right to demand it. But I'm sure the band is always welcome to our suggestions.
What do you guys think? Is it too far fetched? Would the band go for it? Would you be happier if the free content were, instead, bootlegs? I figure if pearl jam honors a request to play Bugs, this petition may actually stand a chance!

They could also do something similar to Radiohead and NIN (pay what you want), with all proceeds going to the Red Cross or the Wishlist Foundation, what have you.

Love that name! (I called mine 'Forgotten Dogs').
Did you make artwork for this compilation and if so care to share?

Still lots of songs left that didn't make "Lost Dogs". (I never could figure out why Long Road wasn't on there, but Whale Song was). And then there's Angel, Crazy Mary, Santa Cruz, Love Reign O'er Me, Soldier of Love, Out of My Mind, etc.
I also like the idea of paying for the songs we want from the "Vault", say 99 cents apiece ... After all, the band already gives us our annual X-mas single for free (ok with memebership, but that's the same as what's proposed here) so let's not get too green diseased. PJ should be appropriately comped for their art.
Long Road & I Got Id are on Merkinball. They're not really b-sides. Of course, I don't know if it's easy to get those nowadays - never saw anyone auctioning off their Merkinball CD's on here.
Yea, I don't see why the band would give away the Stray Cats for free either. Maybe they can make them available to the 10C before the general public???

Like many of us, I couldn't help but try and decipher what was meant when the Ten Club stated the plan for something "big, bold, and free" prior to the release of Avocado. What grew from such musings eventually became the first post of this thread. I thought, what else could be bigger and bolder than this "Free Kittens" idea. From a business standpoint, it made sense since these songs were already sitting around. Don't get me wrong, I value music greatly. I would not hesitate to pay for an album I enjoy, especially when an artist puts their heart and soul into its creation. This was just my ideal version of the “big, bold, and free” that never was.
Now, I assume many of the unreleased songs not found on Lost Dogs will be used on the reissues or the still in-progress EP. What's leftover after that may not be enough for another odds-an-ends album until somewhere down the line when they restock the shelves, so to speak. Meanwhile, there is still a bundle of miscellaneous material gathering dust. The types of music I’m referring to are original demos (Ed’s 'Speed of Sound', Stone’s 'No Way', Mike’s 'Inside Job', Matt’s 'Get Right', Jeff’s 'God's Dice', etc.), unfinished numbers (Anything in Between), instrumental beds (the ones from Vs. Ed never got around to adding vocals), and alternate versions (100 Pacer)*. All together, if released in a standard fashion, it would suffer by comparison to Lost Dogs. Besides, the band might not feel comfortable charging its fans for material of this sort. Inversely, a lot of fans would accuse pearl jam of scraping the bottom of the barrel or trying to make a quick buck. However, the internet is perfectly suited to handle songs stuck in such a purgatory: Not up to par for commercial release on their own, and yet still holds a degree of interest to the diehard fans. It could be like uncovering some cool artifacts at an archaeological dig. While we’re at it, why not add a few unreleased b-sides to elevate how “big and bold” it can be!
*I’m using examples of songs we’ve mostly heard, for clarity’s sake.
No so sure about the kittens being freed but it's my understanding that some of the dogs were indeed found so that's good news: http://wegotshit.blogspot.com/2010/01/f ... _3106.html
