“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’” - Kurt Vonnegut

Do you think many of us wouldn't have bought those old school bootlegs back in the day for 40 bucks a pop if we didn't want to hear those rare tracks.

as much as we long him, could he have written any of the songs above? at the same time, how many people could have written alive or black.,...
...but if they'd paid attention....was evenfllpw out of the rhelm of possibiliy?
Every cover he does or PJ is better then original.

I think the younger you are the more unfamiliar you are with the originals and the more you think of them as Ed's....or Pearl Jam's. These songs are not unknown songs that PJ picked up...like Crazy Mary.
Whatever.
When I hear the original Baba or Reign I like to joke "What's with this Pearl Jam cover band??" But it is said VERY tongue in cheek.
I just had to say--if anyone has made "Crown of Thorns" his own, it would be Shawn Smith. If you've seen him do this song live, you'll know what I mean.

No fucking way, Baba O'Reilly is better when PJ does it, sorry.

Sorry, you can't say that. You just can't.

I agree with most of your list ....except for Crown of Thorns still prefer the MLB version and Andrews vocals seem to fit the song better.

I agree with you. MLB totally owns the song. In second place, pretty close behind would be Shawn. Quite a bit behind in 3rd place is Ed.
About covers, I think GTFLYGIRL is on the money. Especially for the younger or musically less diverse crowd, PJ is the first time many of the covers were heard, so that is the version they relate to.
But for us oldsters, PJs attempts are charming, and I love hearing them. But there are almost none that rate "better" than the original.

Generally speaking though the band and Ed do amazing covers. Crazy Mary is definitely the finest example of he band making a cover their own.

Beisdes, I have seen bands cover this song way better than pj, especially later performances has been a bit dull.
Awful.

that is by far the most pitifull worshipping of the man I've ever heard.
No, he doesn't cover all songs better than the original.
Some of you need to branch out, Ed is not a God
it's not even close - not one Who cover, not a Neil cover, not a Stones cover, none of them
open your ears and expand your music knowledge a little bit
I'm not saying he doesn't do a good job, but better, NO WAY
it's almost a comical statement
every song is awesome
