High Heel Shoes

To the ladies on the board:

Yeah I know you all want to be taller but a cautionary tale on what high heels can do to your feet after years of wear.

I am sitting in the hospital awaiting to see my wife (a young 40) after having surgery on her foot (the other one will need surgery soon). The Doctor just came out to show me the X-rays of the before and after. This was after 3.5 hours of surgery. She had 3 toes broken and reset to stop them from crossing over each other (which caused excrutiating pain), a bunyon removed the size of a golf ball and a heel spur that caused her to limp and only able to wear sneekers.

She will be in a cast for 8 weeks and has 3 pins and a plate and screws in her big toe. She will have to do it all over again for the other foot afterward.

High heel shoes are sexy and all but wearing them throughout your career can do some amazing damage that cost a lot more than the shoes.

sorry to read this BD. :(
your poor wife! hope she has a quick recovery!

i've read a few times about the long-term dangers of wearing heels. even once you stop wearing them, can have life-long foot pain according to studies.

me, i rarely wear heels. i am a-ok with my slightly vertically challenged height of 5'4". :D
i wear them for weddings, job interviews, funerals. otherwise, i wear flats most of the time, or chunky-heeled shoes no more than 2" high.

I don't wear heels as much as I do. When I do wear them the highest is 3 inches. I have a bunion already on one foot :(
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

I knew someone who had that surgery done- both feet at the same time- quite painful. Yeah, heels are not your friend. being 5'10"- don't need the heels too much.

Nothing personal (hope she recovers and everything), but wouldn't this be the same thing as me knowingly putting my hand in a bear trap... over and over again? Oh, the price of vanity.

Hope your wife feels better soon.

As for me---wear heels a lot to work. I just don't like flats with dresses (on me). But thankfully I don't have any feet pain at the moment and have been wearing them for many many years.
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

get well soon mrs. bd !! :D

yea, but.....does a bear trap make your arms look longer and sexier? then it might be an appropriate comparison. ;)

also, a lot of these foot issues can occur, heels or not. some foot problems are seemingly genetic/hereditary, so some are more apt to suffer from them than others. however, this is not to say that heels are good for your feet. time and again, it is clearly proven, high heels are bad news for your feet.

(but sure, try telling that to all the guys with the foot/heels fetishes :D )

Having a bear trap hanging from my arm makes me look like a total badass, not sure about the sexy though...

I just couldn't walk in heels any more. It was our best friends' wedding and the bride wanted flats as well ;)

hey its too late now but platform shoes are the answer- gives you needed height and doesn't mess with your feet

  • I'm comfortable with my 5"5. I'd rather be small than not able to walk ;) And being small can even be an advantage so I'm cool with it.
