Did anyone else think Inglorious Basterds was just okay?

Am I the only one who didnt love Inglorious basterds? It was a good film, not bad. That opening sequence with that man on the farm and the nazi general is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The tension in that scene is absolutely perfect But I didnt love the film.

I love Tarantinos films. As a film lover myself, I look forward to each new flick of his, in large part because his own "fanboyishness" and his love of movies shines through. He just beams a passion for the art form. He is a film lovers film maker.

And I think he has had an incredible run of movies. Resevoir, Pulp Fiction, jackie, Kill bill 1 and 2, Grindhouse. And being the writer for From Dusk Til Dawn. That is a HELL of a run. I guess after loving Kill Bill 1 and 2 and Grindhouse, I was hoping he would blow me away again.

you forgot him being the writer of true romance and natural born killers.

im not as big a fan of the kill bills so i guess tis just subjective... even when it is your fave moviemaker, as he is mine.

I thought the movie was fantastic ... far better than better than the Grindhouse duo.

And, far better than most of the schlock that people are fawning over for best movie of 2009 like Hurt Locker or District 9.

I first realised who he was when I saw TrueRomance then followed through all the rest - I love them all - Bastards was good, I just didn't think it was great. Still dig you Quentin all the way. I own - Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, Deathproof but I won't be buying Inglorious Bastards

    Acting, dialogue, writing, story...all incredible.

I agree with you on Basterds. It's good, but not great.
Wouldn't agree with you on some of the other ones though. KIll Bill was mediocre I thought, and Death proof was absolutely terrible. He hit his peak with Jackie Brown imo.

I loved it, but to each his own. Movies do different things for different people. I thought the movie "Crash" was a heavy-handed piece of shit, but somehow it won an Oscar for Best Film.

I liked the film, I wasn't blown away by it, but that first scene I will agree was pretty incredible. Very seldomly do I get anxiety like that from watching a film scene. Most often it has happened with Dexter...but that opening scene on Basterds was great.

I thought there were good parts, but I was left wanting more. They could've made an entire movie about the whole Jewish-soldiers-scalping-Nazis thing, and i thought there were other parts that just lagged. Not wild about the ending either. Still, it was very different - and anything that comes out of Hollywood nowadays that is different must be good...

I think I'm not sure HOW I feel about it. Which must mean it was good... right?

I agree. Overall I think all Tarantino films are good but not outstanding. As others have said "each to their own".

  • I feel about the same. I liked it but it's no Dirty Dancing or Top Gun....Settle down folks...I kid I kid

Although, I do like Dirty Dancing. Nobody puts baby in a corner....motherfucker.

Anywho, this movie had one of the few characters I actually like Brad Pitt in. And still, nobody on earth is so famous that they can wear the fucking ridiculous raccoon on their chin that he insists is a goatee. Truly, one of mankind's embarrassments.

I saw it on opening weekend. Me and some friends saw a late show (around 10) and I had already been to a few bbq parties earlier. So i was pretty beat. I enjoyed it, not my fav Taratino movie (loved Kill Bill and the Grindhouse ones). Opening sequence was awesome. Haven't watched it dince, my opinion might change (for the better) if i see it again.

I liked the movie, but thought it could be better. I loved the opening scene. The spagetti western feel brought me back to watching clint eastwood movies with my dad as a kid. As always Tarantino had great dialogue sequences, but I just really wish he developed some characters (mainly the bastards) more. However, I did only see it once in the theatre, so maybe giving it a second watch will sway my current opinion a bit.

    best movie of the year.

Grindhouse is a top 5 all time moive...ok, maybe top 10....at any rate, it was nearly perfect....however, you have to get the whole concept to get it. it's really a brilliant movie. too bad it flopped.

That's him saying 'I'm Brad Pitt and I can do what I want'...

I gotta respect that.. I'm sure Dimitris would agree!

Here's the thing about Grindhouse, I liked Death Proof ... but, Planet Terror was less than inspiring. Could be that QT wrote the former while Robert Rodriguez wrote the latter.

I really hope Machete turns out to be a great flick because Danny Trejo is one badass mutherfucker. (Yes, I know, that's a Rodriguez project)

i l iked them both, but as stand alone movies, Planet Terror was more entertaining. Zombie movies rule.

either way, it is best viewed in an older theater so that you can get the full effect of what they were trying to accomplish.
