I Love The Mouse!
Lonesome Crowded West!
Gotta be one of the Most Underated albums of the 90's

they really are one of the strangest bands around. Made depressing music all the way back in the 90's languishing in obscurity in Washington, then hit it big in 2003/2004 with a song thats their most happiest in their catalogue, and in that same year appear in major magazines and on The OC.
I can say alot of band's soundtracked my 20's, but very few of those can I say actually created instrumentation and music that sounds like the that decade of life to fit along side powerful and poignant lyrical content. Modest Mouse are one of those rarified bands.
The lyrics just seem so brilliant. You can tell Isaac has gone through some intense stuff, but he's as unsure of himself as we all are of ourselves, and i think that makes for powerful lyrics. Theres just this brilliant dichotomy in them, on the one hand there is a feeling that this guy is stuck in a rut and wants to get his life going again, which is coupled with lyrics that seems to implore and demand the listener make something of their lives before its too late, to start living life because this is all we have.
Theyve been off the radar for a few years because of the large gap in albums, but I have no doubt whatever the next LP is, it will be great.0 -
I like them, don't have all their albums just a few. Ok live. Saw them open up for REM A few years back and enjoyed them. Saw them this year at Orion and didn't do anything for me. Missed them at Firefly for another band.8/28/98- Camden, NJ

I definitely like Coyotes the best of what's come out so far. Honestly, the other songs have to grow on me more."Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

Modest Mouse is one of my favorite bands. I love them.
Not sure I'm digging the singles from the new album so far.... but I've only listened to them once or twice each.... and I think was in a bad mood at the time. :P
I really wish they'd come and do a real show in Vancouver. I've never seen them live. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
i dug what i heard. I've seen them twice. Once opening for REM in '08 and at the Orion Music Festival in '12. I would like to see them as a headliner though. Here's another song from them.PJ_Soul said:Modest Mouse is one of my favorite bands. I love them.

I've been lucky enough to see them 3 times. I'm sad they released some new tour dates and Atlanta was not on it, but I caught them last year so that was cool.
I've not heard the new singles but i'm excited to hear the album. I'll wait until I can hear it all at one timeCharlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -
I preordered the next vinyl, really like lampshades. Saw em once in Philly but the ppl I was with had to leave early... I hate doing that.Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?0

actually glad I checked here today, just saw they are touring and the tickets went on sale at 10. Got one to Raleigh, see you there.
BTW Ticketmaster sucks!!Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?0 -
I saw them at the Pemberton festival and they played Lampshades...
One of my favorite bands I'm definatly going to see them again!

Same, it's really good. It's busy in a sort of Moon and Antarctica way but not over produced.http://www.audiohammock.com - Rock, Indie, and Electronic reviews, news, and the AudioHammock podcast.

Dammit, the only full album posted on youtube has no sound. :(
But there are 5 songs up. Pretty good IMO. Really want to hear the whole thing, but so far I think it sounds good enough to buy. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
The album came today, only had a chance to listen to the first quarter of the album, but sounds good.0
