overall, i say yes...but it truly is dependent on just HOW religious someone is, how large a role it plays in their lives, and how much, if at all, they want me to participate. i know of quite a few mixed-religious couplings, and they DO work, but one or the other is usually less religious and/or 'gives in' more towards the other religious background, most especially when it comes to children. i know of some couples that i think, wow...they really make it work, and then others that i think...no way could i tolerate that. so yea, it is so dependent on the person and their degree of religious observance.

Seeing as how I am in no way religious, I would say yes. However, this is definitely an issue that needs to be discussed at length when you are in a relationship, sooner rather than later. I guess it depends on how attached one is to their faith, and then the extended family issues come into play. How religious are they? And how much influence does that have on how they view your relationship etc.

I'm sorry that things didn't work out for you and that this was an issue that couldn't be overcome :(
Totally agree on the discussion part.
My brother was dating this girl who was very Christian, where as my brother is more agnostic... He suddenly went all in and tried to do things her way, to make her think he was Christian as well.

Needless to say, that relationship didn't last long!

Actually its interesting that I didn't know until i was 18 that my father had roots in Buddhism and Shintoism - I had been brought up Protestant (although now I'm not religious) as my mom was protestant... Religion never came up in my parent's relationship...

I think it would have been really interesting had I been brought up Buddhist!
