Is 'Ten' really the 11th greatest rock album of all time?

And I know we're a bit demanding, but we CAN"T WAIT for the next album guys!!
Anyone have any idea on what it will be like?

I'm not even sure the members of the band know yet.
Can't escape from the common rule...

Jeff has to decide whether to grow his beard out or not first, before any trivial decisions such as these are made.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Huh??? Guns N' Roses is garbage. I won't even justify that list by looking at it, but YOU have to be kidding, right?

No, I just put that in to annoy you...

It's 'popular and influential' not greatest, so maybe my thread title was misleading.

I would argue that Appetite was much more popular (that's not really debatble - it's sold more) and influential (Vedder's voice was certinally influential, but I believe that GNR as a whole had more influence on music to come. Neither bands are that influential though).

As for the better record, I'd choose Ten but it's down to personal preference.

But come on, Ten above Born To Run? I'd like to see Vedder pen universally beloved songs like the title track and Thunder Road.

that is true, was my fav when I first started listening to pearl jam back in 04, now it barely makes top 5.

    let's take a breath here...barely makes the top 5? C'mon...
  • How is it possible that almost everyone doesn't think Ten belongs among their best work?!?! Have you all seen the track list recently??

I guess everyone is sick of hearing those songs hundreds of times. Really, I can't think of any reason........
By the way, Riot Act better than Ten?? That's insane, or just stubborn...not one song on Riot Act comes close (though I do love Riot Act).

Creed's Human Clay is on there.... not only is it on there, but it is 95. London Calling is 96.

I believe I have made my point.
And before his first step... He's off again...
  • wow... pretty eclectic list... not really the greatest "rock" album list at all... harvest at 98?? STP makes it bust soundgarden doesnt?? shaniah twain and norah jones are WAY to high... i have a number of other problems with the list... its seems like they were just associating as they made it... "oh nirvana should be 10... oh that reminds me... how bout pearl jam?"... then they started listing rap albums at the same spot...

nice to see PJ get the respect they deserve though!

    Thriller isn't rock and roll!
Yep, the same I found. And many others too:
    Prince
    Shania Twain
    Stevie Wonder
    Fleetwood Mac
    Eminem
    Outcast
    Marvin Gaye
    Usher etc.

Well in this way - Ten may be 11th.

Because it's not the best albums of rock list:)
This is great mix. Anyway - it's a honour - Ten is higher than i.e. Marvin Gaye or Miles Davis or The Clash. Again - this is a list of most popular albums, not the best

  • It is a great rock album, and if the criteria is 'popular and influential,' it certainly deserves to be near the top o' the heap IMO.

One can't dismiss the impact that album had by 1992 and the rise PJ gave to the 'popularism' of 'grunge.' It was a game-changer over a large swath of the music scene ~

Is it their best album? No way, but a lot less people were influenced by Vitalogy or No Code than Ten.

    Are they like Creed?
Yeah like Creed, but before Creed.

I'm paraphrasing, but that reminded me of the best part of the VFC movie.

    ....and that list sucks!

  • Hey can't argue with a Pearl Jam album being in the top 10 now can you? And as for the whole "Ten" isn't their best album thing, there are Great cuts on every one of their albums, and I mean GREAT songs. Can't really compare. But when you look at the cultural world impact Ten had compared to the others, nothing they've done since has come close, so Ten is by far their most important album, if not Greatest.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
  • HA! Wow what a shitty list. The #12 album, just losing to Ten is my favorite album of all time!
