Alright here goes. I am 31 and I have a 41 year brother so have influences from him and my dad.

    In no particular order:

Eurythmics, Abba (shhh!!!!!! ), Creedence, Doors, Bon Jovi, Evanescence, Cold Chisel, Skyhooks, Roy Orbison, AC/DC, Midnight Oil, Crowded house, Chris Isaak, Dire Straits , the eagles...

    Bits of everything really :)

No need to show any shame about: CCR, Doors, Roy Orbison, AC/DC, Midnight Oil, Crowded House or Dire Straits!

nah I'm not ashamed, but most people I know find my varied tastes very odd or somewhat "ecclectic"....I love my aussie rock, it's in the blood!...oh while we're at it, something totally different from the rest...hilltop hoods and butterfingers and violent femmes!!

If you EVER bad mouth Ronnie James Dio...terrible things will happen to you....and I mean terrible. Not by me, not by BinFrog, not even by Dio....but the powers that be will bring horror into your music loving life and rid it of all your good taste. :| ......

Okay, I know that was way too intense, but god damnit, it's Dio! Aggghh! I'd start a Dio appreciation thread if I didn't think that no one would be as pumped about it as I am. :P :ugeek:

Dio is a dick, he ruined "black sabbath" :P

I didn't want to enter this thread, because the idea of apologizing for liking any music is ridiculous.

I'm never ashamed of telling people who I like. If people don't like it ... fuck 'em ... really.

But I'm glad I did come in here, because of this ....

They both brought different things to the table, and are both great for their own reasons. It's obvious Dio couldn't, and didn't want to do what Ozzy did, and vice versa. Which is why they'll both be remembered for entirely different legacies...and creating two great bands, under the same name. :D

and did you just associate Dio with that twat Gene Simmons? You should be ashamed of yourself!.

lol, sabbath were about creating this new dark heavy metal, in my eyes its just the entire birth of stoner rock and see it more as electric blues than 'heavy metal'. Hell ozzy said people pay money to go see movies so why not pay money to get scared at a gig and thus black sabbath. Ozzy's voice is so different compared to ANYONE who has been since, Dio's voice is boring imo in the light of things, he just made sabbath like not what they were which was originally dark and 'metal'.

Yeah...but, we saw what happened to Black Sabbath when Tony was the only original member left and making decision all by his lonesome... :?

Dio is an acquired taste, which is why I like to tease people about his glory. 8-)

Not to be a snob, but I'm almost 100% sure that Tony said something like "Isn't it peculiar that people pay money to see scary movies? Why don't we play scary music." after the band was rehearsing in an old church across from a theatre. They were originally a blues band called Earth but changed their name, and were inspired by an old Boris Karloff film entitled "Black Sabbath". :ugeek:

For better, or for worse...Black Sabbath was my obsession for years as a young teenager.

I remember on the Reunion dvd which I have Ozzy quotes Tony saying it...who knows though, all that matters is that it was said and is what spawned one of the greatest bands ever.

I don't know if we're listening to the same version, but Wicked World on Past Lives is pretty incredible. 18 minutes of sweet Sabbath heavy, and some awesome bluesy improv with Tony totally shredding at the end.

whoops not live at last, past lives sorry, dont know where i got live at last from. I dont get also why some people say ozzy's voice sucks, i have a friend and she is technically a good singer and she says he is really good, i mean even listening to that live album and in the studio ozzy can sound really nice, especially the bit in wicked world jam where ozzy says something like "something something tell hiiiiim, something else my way ,my way" And then we all know he does songs like black sabbath really well. Ah people say back in the day Dio was really original but i dont know, there are about 9999999999999999 singers like Dio about now and since so maybe im just used to that boring high pitched stuff, no one has sounded like ozzy since and i've listened to my fair share of music.

I dunno ozzy is just betterrr

Dio's content years ago was pretty original, since then he's influenced many followers...as has Ozzy. Ozzy had some great chops, and a great stage presence back in Sabbath's heyday, even in his own peak of a solo career...but lately, I think Ozzy's wearing thin and his good years are behind him...just my opinion though. I would probably say the same for Dio...voices change, and he just doesn't sing like he used to but he still rocks the house. Dio is in no comparison to the high pitched crap of today...most of it is just murder to their vocals...if we're referring to the same type of screaming. :?

Just like I say everytime I participate in the discussion of Ozzy-Sabbath and Dio-Sabbath with people....they're both incredible and pieces of rock history for two, respectively different reasons.

Man, we really de-railed this thread didn't we Brisk? :P ;)

    Ozzy poeple love Ozzy more.

Dio people love Dio more. (Of which, I am one)

There is no right or wrong.

But I will say it again, Heaven and Hell's alum last year was great!

Defined as a musical group/artist that generates weird looks when you say you listen to them. We've all got them and some may be too ashamed to admit them. Mine are:

    Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs
    Steely Dan
80's music (Hewie Lewis, Ah ha, Men at Work, etc)

ok, i'm sorry...but i don't think either of your first two choices are something to feel guilty/embarrassed about, at ALL. as to 80s music, well that's the prime of my youth and i will never be embarrassed about that, tho sure...some bands, yea.....

I thought the same thing..I still love Natalie Merchant/10,000 maniacs. I could see some of the 80s hair bands being a guilty pleasure. But I don't even feel guilty about that. :P
