You covered all my favorite movies (baseball). I remember going to the real Field of Dreams with my dad and having a catch in the outfield and playing in the corn with my sister. I think my pops and I are going to try to take a roadtrip there again this summer.

I watch Bull Durham the day before opening day every year. I believe in the church of baseball...

always thought this was way underrated. Always loved it. Maybe because I am a hoops guy but thought this movie really nailed alot of the stereotypes and such. Can't turn this one off.

And to the guy who said Youngblood - always enjoyed that movie - probably because always had a little thing for Cynthia Gibb.

    10. Slapshot
gotta give the hockey love on this list.

    9. Jerry McGuire
sometimes i think that cameron crowe can do no wrong.

    8. Rocky IV
it's so over the top with capitalism v. communism. ivan drago is one of the greatest villains i've ever seen in a movie.

    7. Major League
it's just an incredibly fun ride

    6. Field of Dreams
the only thing keeping this from being higher? the worst toss of a baseball in dramatic movie history.

    5. Rocky Balboa
only mr stallone could make this movie work. the absence of adrian, the depression of paulie... everything contributes to the beast inside mr balboa, and he gets his last chance to let it out.

    4. Rudy
it's too feel-good to not rank this high on the list

    3. The Rocket
a movie about the greatest hockey player of the golden age? fuck yeah

    2. The Mighty Ducks
if this isn't near the top of your list, then you have no soul

    1. Rocky
maybe it's because i've watched this move three times in the past month, but damn, sly can really write an enthralling movie.

i'm positive that my choices won't be among the popular majority, but i make no apologies.

Loved that movie along with some young stars, K Reeves, P Swayze, R Lowe etc.

    Slapshot
    Brian's Song

    and some not mentioned

    Hoop Dreams
    The Great White Hope
    Greased Lightenting
:D The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh  just kidding

I'll mention two that have not been listed yet, I believe ...

    victory_advance.jpg

Victory - Best of both worlds ... war flick and a sports flick. Tell me the scene where Max Von Sydow has the Pele goal going through his head over and over then he stands up and cheers isn't fantastic. I dare you.

    61_poster.JPG

61* - Say what you want about Billy Crystal, or the Yankees ... I thought this was a great flick. Thomas Jane did a great job playing Mickey Mantle.

    Car Racing: Days of Thunder

    Wrestling: Vision Quest

    Bobsledding: Cool Runnings

    Rowing: Oxford Blues

Yeah, can't get enough of it. Hadn't watched it in years so I went on Amazon to buy it. Now that I live in Ireland I bought it under the title "Best Shot"! I guess the Europeans don't know wtf a hoosier is, hell, most Americans probably don't. Anyway, watched it just the other night as well, and yes......chills.

To all the people that said "Rudy"...

If I were the real life Rudy, I would be pissed that I was portrayed as a crying, sniffling little bitch.. NO WAY the real life Rudy cried that much..

"Over The Top" is a great sports movie!!

  • Does No Holds Barred starring Hulk Hogan count? J/k. The Wrestler was a good flick though. And what about the Karate Kid(original) does that count as a sports movie? Bloodsport must have been mentioned by now. There's a new baseball movie coming out soon starring Brad Pitt and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Looks like it might be a "hit", lol
