Top 10 Sports Movies of all time...

...From fadoo.com (Bob McCown)

1. ROUNDERS: If you are a poker player you not only have already seen this movie, you have memorized it. Best opening line in Hollywood film making history. Great movie even if you don't play the game, but I suggest you watch it with someone who does.

2. SEABISCUIT: A beautifully crafted film with the most realistic racing scenes ever produced. A wonderful story…I've watched this one 4 or 5 times.

3. THE HUSTLER: Maybe you have to be old enough to remember when going to the "Ball Hall" was a regular night out, but this is still a stunningly honest film. Of course, if you like "The Hustler" you'll have to watch the sequel, "The Color of Money." (It's better than most people give it credit for.)

4. BULL DURHAM: Not many sports movies you can watch with your wife or girlfriend, but this one qualifies. Hard to believe this one received no Oscar nominations.

5. HOOSIERS: Must see! The depiction of life in the 1950's is so real, you might think it was filmed then. (Actually, 1985)

6. ROCKY: As great as it is, I think I've reached the point where I've watched it one too many times. Still, no serious sports movie library can be complete without it. (If only the fight scenes were more realistic, it would be the "perfect" movie.)

7. THE NATURAL: One of the best films ever made, regardless of genre. It's so good that even the fantasy stuff (like Hobbs knocking the cover off the ball) is okay.

8. FIELD OF DREAMS: I'll watch this movie at least once a year, just so I can hear James Earl Jones say the word "base-ball." This might be the best sports movie of all time.

9. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Best football movie ever made. Name another sports film with action scenes as realistic as this?

10. THE ROOKIE: Dennis Quaid has done his share of sports movies, but this one is the best of the bunch. Another true story.

Rounders? I don't consider Poker a sport. I play it casually, but to me it's a game. Just like Darts is a game (and I play that too). A sport is something that you have to put a lot of energy into.

The rest of the list looks good. I would add Remebering the Titans, White Men Can't Jump and Rocky II.

  • The fact that Caddyshack is not on this list disappoints me.

Weird not seeing Eight Men Out on this list
  • Big Green
  • I just don't get the love for "Any Given Sunday"... to me, it's the most cliche, over-acted sports movie ever. I remember actually being angry watching it lol.

Bull Durham is an acquired taste.

I'm guessing Jerry is as well, because i can't sit thru it.
