KROQ (106.7 in L.A.) played the new album its entirety tonight. I remember way back in 1994 when Vitalogy was world-premiered.

I have always liked STP but am not a Scott Weiland fan. I agree that the DeLeo brothers are the driving force here. I never understood why they didn't just dump Weiland from the very beginning and just move on.

They did, twice. It was called Talk Show and Army of Anyone. Didn't exactly work out too well (though I do agree that most of what make STP good is the DeLeo brothers, but when he's on Weiland is one hell of a frontman).

Oh, and I also saw them open with Shine On, it was in Austin around 2002 or so. It was quite badass.

I actually saw Talk Show open for Foo Fighters at the Hollywood Palladium in Oct. 1997. Three weeks later, I saw Pearl Jam open for the Stones up in Oakland.

  • I saw STP twice in 2001 and VR 3 times and he was always great live. He always sang well and performed like the bastard son of Bowie and Iggy. I'll be going to the Dublin and London STP shows, providing the band turn up!

I'm downloading the new album now from iTunes. It's 9pm in So Cal right now. Backspacer arrived 3 hours before midnight also back in September.

I have a favor to ask of someone who pre-ordered STP's new album from iTunes.

I missed out on pre-ordering, and now I'm desperately seeking the iTunes pre-order only bonus track "About A Fool." If someone is willing to share it with me, please send me a PM. Thanks in advance.

I gotta say...pleasantly surprised by the new album so far. We'll see if it sticks for the long haul, but really digging a lot of the songs.

I didn't pre-order it, but I have had a copy of that track for a long time from www.belowempty.com, an STP fansite. They have since taken it and Samba Nova down, but you can still get the two unreleased tracks from No.4 (Heed the Water Whisperer and Learning to Drive). I'm not sure if About A Fool was re-recorded or not, but I could send you a copy of the one I have.

correct you are, but correct me if I'm wrong, I believe it's a different version than the one previously available on belowempty.

Nah, you're right. All of the bonus tracks that have come out in the last few weeks (Samba Nova, About a Fool) and You Can't Drive Me Away from the True Blood 2 Soundtrack are all different from the previous available versions. Studio magic has been applied, just like Weiland did for Learning to Drive to turn it into Beautiful Day.
