The Cure

I've been listening to the Cure again recently, particularly 'Pornography' (my favourite Cure album), 'Faith', and 'Concert', and the B-sides from 'Standing on a Beach'.
This music takes me back to when I first listened to Pornography as a 13 year old at school. The album still sounds as good now as it did back then.

Anyone else here a fan of The Cure's early stuff?

I'm a fan of all the Cure's music. Awesome band!

They have songs that sound better the older they get.

Probably one of the biggest cure fans going around.

The albums you have highlighted are down my less favourite cure spectrum tbh. I love three imaginary boys though, think all the songs on that are great. As for the next 4 albums the only songs that stand out really are: play for today, a forest, drowning man, a strange day, hanging garden, one hundred years caterpillar and shake dog shake.

Everything after that is just genius. Cant stop going on about their 3 hour and 30 minue shows either!

My favourite alltime albums have to be disintegration, bloodflowers or the self title.

    Peace

I can't believe this album is that old, man time flys. I do remember reading the lyrics to *Pictures Of You* this date (oh what a date) as I took her to a Ziggy Marley concert.

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
    All I can feel

    Remembering
You standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
    Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
    Remembering
You running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and whiter than snow
    And screamed at the make-believe
    Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
    To let it all go

    Remembering
    You fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
    You were stone white
    So delicate
    Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
    Remembering
You how you used to be
    Slow drowned
    You were angels
    So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
    Open my eyes
    But i never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
    I wouldn't be breaking apart
    All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But i never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
    But always just breaking apart
    My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
    That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
    That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
    All my pictures of you

After that I then went crazy and went out with her younger sister. Those were the days.

I love 'The Drowning Man' from Concert - although I had it as a b-side on a cassette tape, whereas I think now it comes as an extra on the newer release of 'Faith'.

I said might be. I don't think it IS, but if someone were to say that, I could see their argument.

I couldn't. Unless you deleted about 1000 other songs from existence beforehand, including the entire opus of Dylan, The Stones, Pearl Jam, e.t.c.

Still, each to their own. 8-)

Also, you'd have Rolling Stone magazine to answer to: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/500songs - they place it at number 278. Personally, I don't think it even deserves to make the top 1000.

Interesting... I like the Rolling Stone list, I don't necessarily agree with it, but it provides food for thought!

One of my favorite concert memories in the last few years was seeing these guys in 2007 (when they canceled every US date ... except the one here) and their second encore was 8 songs from Boys Don't Cry ... along with the title track, Killing and Arab, 10:15 on a Saturday Night, Jumping Someone Else's Train, Fire in Cairo, Grinding Halt ... it was amazing. They are still fantastic live.

As for Pictures of You ... something got taken away, just a bit , when they released Letter to Elise ... always felt those two songs were a bit too close.
