I think enjoying a gig when you don't know the music is always harder. May be Claire and I are more likely to enjoy it as we will know some of their music.

You should give their first album Bring It On a try ;) ... if not that at last the song Whippin' Piccadilly

I loved that album, I went to see them when it came out, but lost track of them subsequently until last year at Pearl Jam. I think I prefer the earlier stuff, to what I heard then but they were ok, I've heard worse :D

I quite enjoyed Gomez too! I knew one or two of their songs, and I've seen MUCH worse support bands :D They were nice background music to the day, I guess!

Quick question for you smart ones:

At St Pancras Station in London I'll be departing the Eurostar (from Paris), then jumping on a First Capital Connect train. Any idea how much time I need to leave b/w the two, or how close to each other these trains are?

I'm guessing they're very close to each other but want to be sure.

Is it FCC from St Pancras or Kings Cross? Either way you won't need too long especially if you already have your ticket.

How long were you planning on giving yourself? Always takes a little longer when you don't know your way around somewhere.

This page has links to a street level and upper level map of the station

National Rail reckon a minimum change time of 5 minutes(if you have a ticket for your next train) -
    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/STP.html
but I would leave longer than that especially if you are hitting at peak time.

Hey thanks a lot for the quick replies. I'm only giving myself 20 min, although First Capital says they'll put you on the next train if the eurostar is late. So you think 20 min should do it, assuming eurostar is on time? Do I have to check in or anything?

Weird some websites want me to take a train from London Victoria station, then a different train to Gatwick. I'm assuming it's because they're affiliated with other companies and not First Capital?

Oh Chime I did see that map before. But I also read First Capital move to St Pancras so they're in the same building as eurostar now.

:? that map shows where FCC are in St Pancras.

I was asking because they have services that leave from Kings Cross too and the two stations are served by the same tube station so often get referred to together. They are literally either side of the same road so wasn't sure which one you needed. Although Kings Cross would only add a couple of minutes to how long you would need to change.

The Gatwick Express leaves from Victoria and that may be why certain sites are recommending that route as it is seen as the dedicated airport train.

Usually most of the train sites use the same system to search for tickets so don't show an affiliation as you can book tickets on any of the sites to travel pretty much any route with pretty much any carrier!

Oh and no checking in needed for non-international travel ;) ... if Eurostar is on time 20 minutes should be fine.

Great info..thanks again chime. Slow reply here as I just booked a ton of stuff. The timing is really tight. my gf's gonna kill me! But she loves the show 'amazing race' so maybe she'll find it fun.

I guess I won't know for sure until I get my ticket. I can't get it mailed so I gotta pick it up when I pass through London the 1st time in June. All it says right now is depart from 'London St Pancras Intl', with no mention of Kings Cross, but like you said I can walk across the street.

Whew the tough part of the trip is booked - a) eurostar from paris to london b) train to Gatwick, then c) Gatwick to home (sweet home)

    Thanks again dude 8-)

Dudette ;) ... and once you mentioned it's Gatwick you'll be heading to it will be St Pancras not Kings Cross so *fingers crossed* should be easy.

Also as you said you'll need to collect your tickets on your first pass through London guess you'll (and more importantly the gf) feel a little more comfortable as you can scope out the route through the station. Should be pretty straight forward.

Exactly what I was thinking...tough to get to know a place in 20 min

Sorry dudette...the masculine pic of Jeff made me think otherwise for a moment

So saddo that I am had to get a train from St Pancras this weekend and had never paid attention to FCC before but because of this thread couldn't help but have a bit of a look for you   The signs giving directions actually state 'First Capital Connect Trains' and FCC only have two platforms at the station so should be straightforward and very difficult to go the wrong way ;)
